Cool can't get new installation on a new computer to recognise old library

Bought a new computer and transferred files to it with laplink. Calibre will not recognize my library?! Both the old and new computers are Windows 10 Home.

Laplink, Now there is a name I have not heard in a while. (I just recycled a bunch of LL cables and program discs)

The Library is metadata.db. That is what makes the GUI happy. The rest just shows the covers and allows you to read them.

Ownership! Who owns (user) the files?

What does "will not recognize" mean? AFAIK calibre does not have a "Recognize Library" feature as such.

What it has is a Use the previously existing library at the new location option in the Create/switch library dialogue.

If you still have the old computer with its library, and it is using a fairly recent version of calibre then use calibre's Export/Input feature as previously suggested.

IIRC last time I used Laplink was with a flat parallel cable with Centronics connectors

Here's what I did successfully. I created a new empty library named Library. in the root of C: and after Calibre recognized it I shut down Calibre and then deleted Library. after that I renamed my old library Library and copied it to the root of C:. Then I restarted Calibre and it was successfully recognised.

again for the help!

As of calibre 3.30 [24 Aug, 2018]:
Quote:
Windows: The default calibre library location is now not in My Documents but instead in the user home folder, to avoid issues with OneDrive auto-syncing calibre libraries

Closes tickets: 1787488
You had a "new" install on you new computer using the transferred data from the old.
