"split" book record if it has multiple formats

Say I have the same book in two formats. Currently both formats are stored in the same book record. I need each format to have its own line.

First Question : Why? Calibre can deliver any format of the book (not just the preferred format). Even with 2 records, there is only 1 preferred format (highest on Send to Device the list) PER DEVICE TYPE. To send an alternate (force), right click the Send icon, then choose from the list.

If you really want
1) Save the book to a folder
2) Be sure duplicate detection (preferences: adding books) is set to create a NEW entry
3) add the book

Duplicate Books (i.e. same author and title) are allowable. Try this:

• create another 'book record' via the Add Books->Add empty book->Duplicate current book feature.
• drag (it will copy) the format file you want from 'original' book folder (press 'O' to open it) into the just created 'empty book' Book Details panel.
• remove (with calibre) the format file just copied from the 'original' book.

I use Calibre Companion, and I want the format (pdf epub) to display in the list of books, as opposed to opening the metadata page. So i want to put the format in the title

Yes, that is true about CC's (connect to server). For Connect to device, the right click on send option works.

BUT
How do you tell which record will be which format from the book list in CC?

Which list? Calibre, Calibre server or CC?

If the goal is to see the format type on CC's booklist, just add the format in one of the extra booklist fields. See CC Settings / Customize the book list / Extra information on the book list.

I'm aware of that functionality [wireless connection], but i really wanted to avoid it because it's not particularly intuitive and I don't have the time to troubleshoot it.
