Question How does Kobo work?

I've been a Kindle reader for years. I'm thinking about getting an Aura H2O edition 2 just to have a new toy. But how does it work compared to the Kindle? When one of the daily emails says a particular book is available and I click the link to it does it magically beam into the Kobo like it does into the Kindle or do I have to do various magical actions to get it into the reader? If it's the latter what exactly do I have to do? That may end up the deciding factor on whether to get one or find a different toy, maybe a camera.

Yep. You have the market right on the device and you can buy and download the book just using the device. (You'll have to have a WiFi connection. I don't think there are any Kobos with a cellular option.)

It really depends on what that daily email is. It probably isn't going to work as it is probably intimately tied to Amazon. I do get emails from Kobo with suggestions for books. If I decide I want one, I can click on it to see it in the browser, click the "Buy now" and confirm the purchase and the book is added to my library. The next time I sync the device, the book will be added to it. I am not familiar enough with Amazon equivalent, or any other sources for books to know how different the process is.

If you are looking at links that point to Kobo (Bookbub for example), purchase the book and it will sync to your Kobo over WiFi. Others such as Bookgorilla that only do amazon.com would require a more involved process.

For Amazon ebooks, I purchase them, sync them to the Kindle app on my computer, bring them into calibre, convert to epub and sideload them over USB to my Kobo (I do transfer some over WiFi using calibre server but that's a whole other kettle of fish).

Ok, so as long as I'm connected to wifi it's just like the Kindle when using Bookbub or Fussy Librarian etc. that have a Kobo button along with their Amazon button. I won't abandon Kindle, just swap back and forth. Thank you for the very helpful and understandable replies.

Once you have both, you can import all your books from both sources in to Calibre. You can then use Calibre to load your Kindle books on your Kobo and your Kobo books on your Kindle.

I have both on my phone: Amazon app and Kobo app, there is no difference, also with Kobo I buy a book and when I connect to wi fii purchased book appears on Kobo, just like with Kindle.
