The original biography of Charles Dickens, written soon after his death by his close friend, John Forster. This massive work, although ignoring many less admirable aspects of Dickens' life, is the definitive source upon which all the (many) subsequent biographies of Dickens have been based.

An absolutely fascinating book for anyone who enjoys Dickens' work.

I have the First Edition published in English (American Ed.), but only Volume 1. This is a wonderful read, uttterly fascinating, as you describe.

This is a great addition to our library here.

I find it fascinating because it gives so much interesting (to the Dickens fan) background information about the way that he wrote books, what was going on in his life as he was writing each one, and so on. It's a book I've been after for years, so I was very happy to see it finally appear on PG.
