Question Boox Note 10.3 or ReMarkable 10.3?

Hello all, just joined and hoping for a little advice as I'm about to spend what for me is a lot of money on an e-book/note-taking e-paper device.

I would like to use this device to take hand-written notes for my work in my small Botanical lab. I also need to use it to read PDF documents (quite large & technical mainly) and some e-books.

I'm very attracted by the ability to write notes on the e-paper display and also the fact that the device will be usable outside as it's not lit like a conventional LED tablet. Using a light to read it indoors is no problem at all - I already do this with my paper notes and documents of course.

I'd like to be able to search the internet and read/download material also re my work - no video-watching or online window-shopping etc needed - this I already have covered by my Laptop.

The ability to take notes including simple hand-sketches and diagrams etc of my observations directly into/onto such a digital form is what I have wanted to be able to do for several years now.

The first device that seemed quite exciting and fit-for(most)-purpose seemed to be the ReMarkable 10.3, but the more I have seen about it the less capable it seems of these multiple tasks....

Now I've seen and read quite a lot about the Boox Note 10.3 and this one seems to offer more flexibility in that it is running Android 6.x.x and also has a basic (i.e. out-of-the-box) set of capabilities that are equal to those of the ReMarkable...

The Boox Note is priced it seems at $600 (+ U.K. V.A.T. at 20%) via the 'goodreader.com' store, whilst it seems to be priced at €570 at the 'ereader.store' - with presumably no V.A.T. as Germany and the U.K. are both (for now at least) in the EU.

Prices notwithstanding I'd much prefer to buy from the store with the best record/reputation as this is a lot of money for me to spend and the last thing I need is any trouble or hassle after paying this amount out to an overseas company from whom I've never purchased to date.

Can anyone help me with a little advice or opinions please?

Much appreciated, John.

Note 10.3 is a better general purpose device overall. It also has better hardware specs. Remarkable is possibly better for note taking experience alone, but arguably worse for everything else.

Based on the history of negative feedback here, I would recommend avoiding the goodereader store. The ereader.store in Germany is legit: while it isn't "perfect", it does have good reputation in this community.

Many thanks - this is basically what I've come to think. This forum is a really good source for such information. I've as you say read a lot of bad news re the goodreader store and intend to avoid it like the plague! It'll be the Germany-based ereader.store for my purchase.

Thanks again.

UPDATE - just bought one from ereader.store - fingers firmly crossed....
I used my credit card, hopefully that will give me some basic protection if 'something goes awry'....

I'll be back with news as soon as I receive it - hopefully next week - maybe.

Good choice.

I've bought a couple of devices from them. They have a very good reputation.

The only issue you might encounter is that it might take a couple of weeks before your Note is shipped to you. If you email them a question, it may take them some time before they can respond. The Note has been a much bigger seller than anyone anticipated, and ereader.store has been quite busy just keeping up with orders!

But be patient, and your Note will come.

For me, the note-taking ability of the Note is nice, but I don't use it that much. I bought it for its size, its upgraded hardware, and because it runs Android 6. For a couple of apps I want to run on an E-Ink device, Android 6 and better hardware are both very important. I find it big enough for the pdfs I read, and yet light enough for eBook reading in general.

In time, though, I may use the stylus more.

Enjoy your Note when it arrives!

Many thanks, yes I'll give them/him plenty of lee-way as you suggest. The most important criteria for me are the honesty and reliability of the seller. Having read a lot of good and favourable comments re ereader.store here, I certainly feel a lot more comfortable with my purchase.

I looked at the excellent example PDFs with and without highlights & annotation posted by a member here (I can't find it now!) and saw that the Note is able to do exactly what I require. Another big bonus for me is the ability to use it outdoors - even for some basic web-searches as I read/write notes and add a few simple diagrams etc.

So, I'm not expecting miracles from an e-paper screen of course
, I leave the colourful full-on laptop-work to my full-on laptop.

I'll let you know and post some early observations etc in my working environment and of my workflow - which includes reading, annotating and note-taking, together with some relatively undemanding web-browser use.

Ultimately my choice came down to the Boox Note or the ReMarkable, but I just couldn't live with the apparently hugely inferior spec and versatility of the ReMarkable.

Well, I'll soon find out, I'm reasonably optimistic - as long as I resist the urge to check my C-card balance for a while!

Back soon with more info and an update.

Originally, when one placed an order for the Note at the ereader.store, it came with the case/cover. However, I believe the case/cover is now being sold separately.

If your Note doesn't come with the case/cover, I would highly recommend getting one. Not only does it provide some protection for the device when carrying it about, but it also has a loop to keep the stylus from getting lost. It's a very slim well made case/cover which is well worth the money.

Yes, I'm hoping, perhaps in vain... that it'll have the case too - if not I'll definitely buy one - is it correct that the case also has the on/off action when opened/closed do you know?

Thanks, John B.

I checked out the ereader.store site. For the Note, you now have the option of ordering it with or without a case. If you did not see the option, you can assume you will get the case.

The Note will go into sleep mode when you close the case. It will awaken when you open the case - unless you set it to turn off after so many minutes of sleep mode. In that case, it will be simply off, and stay off until you turn it on again.

When you get the Boox Note, I'd be very interested in your impressions, and information on the battery life when used to read ebooks and PDFs.

That's great, just what I'd like it to do. I'll have to wait & see if it comes with or without a case - I'll buy one if it comes without.

Thanks for taking the time to look for me.
