Max 3 screen protector advice
I have just gotten my Max 3 from Booxtor and have installed the screen protector that came with it.
It was very difficult to install it without bubbles so in the lower side I have a few bubbles mostly due to some microscopic dust or lint. It's really annoying and I tried to push the bubbles to the edges but it's not easy. I don't want to ruin the touch screen! What do you guys advice? Is the screen protector useful? Can I just leave the protector for a while and then try to reinstall a new one? It's such an expensive device that I want to be really careful! |

You don't need a screen protector for an eInk screen. I've never used one and most people on MR don't use one.

I don't see any scratches on my Max 3 yet. I guess if you let the screen/pen get dirty with something gritty you might get some, but with a clean screen and regular pressure on the pen I think you're fine without a protector.

I have three Wacom devices (7.8 inches and 10.3 inches) and I don't use the screen protector on any of them, simply because I couldn't apply it without bubbles.
I don't have any scratches on any of the devices. |

Some people like to put a special type of textured screen 'protector' on their readers in order to simulate the feel of writing and drawing on paper with a pencil. If that is your goal, you may wish to check further into this.

Most people on MR don't use screen protectors because they are reading on dedicated ereading devices, not note taking devices. If you are simply swiping pages to read, then, no, a screen protector is not necessary. Some people on eink note taking devices do not use screen protectors because the model which they have uses a glass screen which is not so prone to scratching from simple note taking. Others don't take enough notes to make it much of an issue. However, on some eink note taking devices with a plastic screen, scratches were a significant issue. Indeed, there is a rather lengthy thread devoted to the issue: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=297244 I don't know if that issue has been resolved on more recent iterations of those devices. I applied a screen protector to my Note as a precaution. I also happened to notice some very slight scratches on it. I did not apply a screen protector to my Nova Pro or my Note Pro because they have glass screens. |

I would tend to agree that for note taking devices, a screen protector is a sensible precaution.
The stock screen protector for the Max 2 Pro (which I purchased recently from Ereader Store) also gave me lots of small bubbles underneath. I used an old credit card to push most of them out towards the edges. It still looks dreadful when the light catches from certain angles, as the remaining bubbles cast dark grey shadows on the screen. Still, I'd rather have it on the screen for protection. It's a pity really because it has a nice matt finish and gives a certain toothiness to the writing feel. I ordered some additional matt screen protectors from Protection Films to replace the stock one - hopefully I'll have fewer problems installing... I also own a Nova Pro which has a glass screen. However I still installed a matt screen protector, primarily to reduce glare: the stock film was a bit too glossy. I found it much easier to install and remove bubbles when applying to a glass screen than to the flexible Moebius screen: maybe the surface of the plastic screen is less smooth, leading to bubbles, and maybe the relative softness means it's more tricky to squeeze them to the edges? An alternative would be to take the screen protector and the Max 2 Pro to a company that professionally applies them. That's exactly what one person did with his Max Carta. I believe that information is somewhere in the thread which I linked to. Not sure of the cost of such a service. |
