Anyway to recover reading history on Kobo Aura?

I suspect that there's no recourse but I thought I'd asked just in case.

I recently accidentally logged off my Kobo Aura and when I logged back in (which I'm pretty sure was using the same email address), I lost all reading history and statistics. All the books (which were sideloaded) are still there but all of them are now showing as 'unread' and my reading stats went to 0.

I had probably read around 100 books and as silly as it sounds, I don't know which ones I've read and I'm terrible about recognizing / remembering which books I've read (I might remember a book I read a week ago but I probably wouldn't remember a book from a month ago and I certainly wouldn't remember a book from a year ago).

I've tried doing "Repair your Kobo account" but that didn't help.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks,
Mike

At this point there isn't anything you can do. For purchased books, Kobo syncs the status to their server and will sync back after doing something like this. For sideloaded books, Kobo doesn't sync anything about the books to their servers.

If you want to prevent this in the future, there are a few things you can do. The simplest is that can backup the internal database and restore it after a mistake like this. There are some issues with this (books have to already be on the device), but it will work.

If you are interested in tracking your reading and you use calibre, you can use by Kobo Utilities plugin to store the reading status of the books when you connect the device. They can be restored later. This doesn't backup or restore the hours read. The plugin can also automate the database backup.

if you cant remember a book from a month or year ago then why would this be a problem and just go re-read the book.

And this is why you should always backup with calibre and bought books should always keep tabs on your progress from the account.... seems like me you are using the wrong account

As the OP stated: "All the books (which were sideloaded) are still there but all of them are now showing as 'unread' and my reading stats went to 0." As usual, Kobo does not track reading stats, etc. for sideloaded books.

I also use Calibre to sideload all my books. All my purchases are through my PC only, which immediately are De-DRM'd go into the Calibre Library.

I've also added an additional date column to Calibre and I enter when I finish reading a book. After decades of reading I thought it might start getting fuzzy, but so far I've only re-read books I intentionally wanted to read again and haven't yet forgotten. But it's still nice to have the info about what books I've finished.
