Any Newspapers for Sony?

Browsing around the various eBook stores, it would seem the only place where you can get electronic subscriptions to newspapers is through the Kindle - and a great selection too (Financial Times, WSJ, NYT, The Independent, Le Monde, etc).... I can't find any other ebook store on the internet that offers subscriptions to newspapers, can anyone else confirm this? I would prefer to get the sony reader that is why I ask.

Hello and welcome to the forums! Calibre has several newspaper feeds "built in" (and they're free!), and folks are adding new links ("recipes") all of the time. It's not trivial to make your own new one, but it sure is an educational experience. I'd also recommend the Calibre forum here.

Please be aware that there are some resource conflicts between the Sony ebook library and Calibre, so if you have two computers, It's best to segregate the installation of these two pieces of software.

Calibre has a fine collection of newpapers and magazines available for download.

I downloaded today's "The Irish Times" via Calibre, saved it as an .lrf disk file, then imported the .lrf file into the Sony eBook Library. I then uploaded the file from the eBook Library onto the 505. Downloading the paper into Calibre took a couple of minutes; the remaining operations were no more than a minutes work.

I was surprised how well Calibre formatted the newspaper on the PRS 505. All the various sections were easily accessible, and within each the various articles, columns and even letter to the Editor.

Excellent job Kovid

I read RSS feeds on my PRS-505 using: http://www.feedbooks.com/help/newsstand
It takes just a few seconds to sync content to my Sony Reader, everything is automatically downloaded and transfered.

How can you guys rely on RSS feeds? Most the good RSS feeds I subscribe to only give you a small part of the article, and force you to jump through the feed to get the full article.

I read full-text RSS feeds only. For example Techdirt, BBC or Read Write Web.

calibre is great... sadly I am a mac user and have to launch parallels in order to get it to work and sync with my 505. Not a problem, just an extra couple steps that take a while and make me less likely to use it.

The app does follow links and works really well!

Never be sad that you are a Mac user. Be proud.

And as others have said you now know that there is a native Mac version of calibre.

Um... not a problem. However, calibre/libprs500 has been cross platform from the beginning.
