Text on kindle extends only half way across page on every other line

A book on my kindle paperwhite has text that extends only half way across the page, or less, on every other line. The text is normal on the Calibre e-book viewer.
Is there a fix for this?

Without knowing what the problem is , it's impossible to say if there is a fix, but often simply doing a conversion to MOBI (even if the original book is already in MOBI) will fix many issues.

Thank you, Kovid, that solved the problem. I converted from AZW3 to mobi and the text is now OK.
