I can think of a couple of things Sunde might be up to. He might be interested in creating an alternative service for the Kindle to connect to that would download ebooks from TPB, or he might be looking at testing a decryption service, or a way for people who don't own a Kindle to buy Kindle books (though I think that last one would be difficult, requiring purchases of multiple Kindles and some shell games using their PIDs). I'm surprised there wasn't more speculation at the Wired site. I guess their readers don't read many ebooks.

If I were inclined to download stuff like that to my Kindle, there's no way I'd do it with the Kindle itself over Amazon's network. I'm betting they're going to decrypt books with the Mobipocket de-DRMing scripts and post them DRM-free, probably in multiple formats.

I do not get it why people assume that the pirate bay distribute copyrighted material. They do no do that. People seems to have fallen for propaganda from lobby organizations.

You know that. They have a web page with links people put up and they allow all links to stay there. They do not host the actual content. They do not look at links and say that some links is not allowed. Recently somebody put a link to a public document there and they were criticised because they did not remove the link it because the document was hurtful to some people. I though that this was a case were the distribution of a public document was not blocked and well in line with the stated policy.

I don't understand what's the big deal. I thought that commercial ebooks are already available free to anybody who uses the so-called darknet. Is the change in the method of distribution from irc to bitorrent that important?

The speculation (and it is only speculation at this point) is presumably that Sunde may be trying to work on a system that would combine access to unauthorized copies of content with the ease of access provided by the Kindle. At this point, accessing the darknet requires some specialized skills (as well as entailing technological, legal, and plausibly ethical risks).
