Hi Folks...

Hi,
Just thought my first post should introduce myself, rather than ask questions or complain about something...

I just bought myself a Sony Reader, after doing lots of research (many thanks to this forum in particular...) - and looking forwards to enjoying it..

The range of books is a little disappointing generally, but I'm very optimistic about being able to buy things I'm interested in soon, at a reasonable price (and in the meantime there's plenty of out of copyright stuff there...).

I'm also feeling, as a sometime amateur writer, that the whole concept of e-books might re-energise me to start writing again - we'll see how that goes.. I am giving some thought to releasing some of my haiku on ePub format, if I can get my head round what I need to do to create one from scratch...

I'm a big reader of sci-fi/fantasy, but I'm fairly widely read from eastern philosophy to 'outdoors' books (all hail Ray Mears).

I'll stop writing now, before you get the idea that I'm overly verbose...

absolutely. quite a bit here, to start with. i'm sure you've already discovered our own ebooks section which cassidym pointed out to you. (and fingers crossed, for a greater offer of in-copyright ebooks soon)

please feel welcome to participate in our poetry thread.

also i'm thrilled to see you're enthusiastic about epub ; if you want to create your own, there are plenty of tools, and you can also use the new wysiwyg editor on feedbooks.com to help you with the formatting, if you don't want to do the code yourself. you can publish your work online there to share it with the world if you choose, or if you just want to try out the process first you can use the interface to create the book and then click "preview".

oh good, because we really hate that around here...

Hi everybody --

Vonda N. McIntyre here. I write SF. I read a good bit of fiction on my Treo and also have been reprinting some of my work on my website. Jeff Carver recommended mobileread and the discussions have already taught me quite a lot. I hope I can be a useful member of the community.

Best,

Vonda

Welcome. Welcome, indeed!

I'm really impressed that authors are joining us here at MobileRead. The fact that they are predominantly SF writers is particularly neat.

And a special welcome to you. I own a Sony PRS 505 and a Kindle from Amazon. I'm totally enamored with the electronic readers. I *still* have a large stack of TBRs, though. The good thing about the electronic books is that they don't take up any shelf space. So even if I buy too many, the only thing hurt is my pocketbook.

And it's nice to be able to take books on a trip without having to lug along an entire extra suitcase.

I'm still feeling out the different formats people find useful.
