KA1 distribution of Natural Light

I have read here and elsewhere that there has been some discussion on the KA1 display quality, but haven't seen anything in a while, so as a new (less than a week) KA1 owner, wanted to see how mine measures up.

How evenly distributed is the natural/orange/amber colored light when in use in low-light conditions?

With good ambient light from early morning to early evening (home, office, outdoors) display is nearly flawless.

But when I do my nighttime/bedtime reading, using Auto/Auto, I tend to have some dark areas in the bottom left and right corners along with a patch on the bottom that does not get painted in the Natural Light quite well enough.

It appears to me that starting at the top, very good even light (both in brightness and natural light) distribution, but as you approach middle, it starts to get a little uneven.

If I turn off Auto/Auto and fiddle with the settings, I can turn down the natural light and turn up the display's brightness to make it better. Kind of defeating the purpose somewhat, but it does smooth it out a little.

My Kobo Aura One LE has quite even light and color. I am very happy with it.

The lighting oy KA1 is very similar to djazz’s. I’m also very happy with it.. I do have the auto adjustment set for brightness but not for “natural light”. I generally don’t touch that—leaving It about four notches from the left, so not too much orange.

I had one Aura One too. Reader seemed good, but that natural light was disaster. Tried to catch it on my camera. It is noticeable, that big orange spot on the bottom left. But camera was unable to capture whole tragedy - there was also something like green tint comming from bottom right corner.

I had to return that unit. I was very disappointed that someone (Kobo) let this disaster to reach customer.

On my KA1, I notice that when on brightness 1 and warmth to 100, the right bottom is greener than the rest of the screen. But this is not really visible when brightness >= 20.

How long ago was this?

It's odd, when I first got my unit, it was similar to yours, but not so pronounced.

After a couple of firmware updates (one auto, one manual) and a few power off/power on cycles (just because) it improved.

It was two weeks ago.
I had latest firmware here (updated myself) - 4.8.10956. But I think firmware has nothing to do with it at all. It was just badly made unit.
I had it for a week, finished one book on it and some articles through pocket. It was not getting better at all. So I returned it as defective unit.

I liked the idea of bigger screen and that comfort light, but when you cannot use it, it is just useless.
