O Reader App

A friend bought a Kepler Pro and tells wonderful things about O Reader App.
Is it possible to use this App on other Android devices eg rooted Tolino?
And how can we get it?

There may be licensing problems in using Onyx software on non-Onyx devices (we have paid for the whole package).
This said, yes there are many ways to retrieve application packages and install them elsewhere: Android is an open platform for work.

But how can we get it?
Which possibilities exist to get it out of the Kepler?

Yes, your question was clear.
My answer was that there may be a licensing issue, nonetheless that the ways to do that are at least a few hence there may be only minimal effort required to find the information you asked for.

>Which possibilities exist

Close to 100% I would say.

I had a couple of purchased apps which, for some reason, I could not install on my Note. After reading in one of these threads about how it is possible to extract the apk file from an app one already has on another device, I did some research.

First, I discovered that I would need to install ADB on my laptop. I found information about how to do that here: https://www.xda-developers.com/insta...s-macos-linux/

Then, I found out how to extract the apk file from an app from here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...android-device

I was able to successfully extract the apk files for the apps I wanted and then sideload and install them on my Note. They are working fine.

Will this method work for OReader? I don't know.

Might there be a simpler more elegant process to achieve the same? Probably. But as I have zero coding/hacking abilities, I wouldn't really know where to look.

Best of luck.

Here's the part of the thread that I linked to which worked for me on my unrooted Note. I have bolded the commands used:

Quote:
1) Determine the package name of the app, e.g. "com.example.someapp". Skip this step if you already know the package name.

adb shell pm list packages

Look through the list of package names and try to find a match between the app in question and the package name. This is usually easy, but note that the package name can be completely unrelated to the app name. If you can't recognize the app from the list of package names, try finding the app in Google Play using a browser. The URL for an app in Google Play contains the package name.

2) Get the full path name of the APK file for the desired package.

adb shell pm path com.example.someapp

The output will look something like this: package:/data/app/com.example.someapp-2.apk

3) Pull the APK file from the Android device to the development box.

adb pull /data/app/com.example.someapp-2.apk

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...android-device
Of course, you have to have already installed the ADB platform tools on you computer to execute the commands. However, that was quite easy to do following the instructions on the XDA link.

A Super Easy Way to Extract APK Files from an APP

Wish I had discovered this method before. Would have saved me quite a few hours of research and fiddling. No root required.

Download and install FX File Explorer from the Play Store to the Android device on which the app whose apk file you wish to extract resides.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...xtapp.fx&hl=en

In the Home screen of the FX app, you will find an icon labeled Apps. Open it up.

You will be able to choose from User-Installed Apps and System Apps. In this case, you would select System Apps. Open it up.

Navigate to the App you are interested in. In this case, O Reader.

Although the package name and path are listed there, you don't need to bother with that. Instead, switch to the "Actions" tab in the status bar. There, you will be given a number of options which include "Copy APK". And, indeed, you will discover that "O Reader" is in fact a version of "AlReader".

You can then copy the file and paste it to the main FX storage area from which you can retrieve it and copy it via your computer to sideload and install on another device. Super simple and no root required.

I don't think so. It includes much from Alreader, but it also handles pdf files very well. I don't think Alreader can handle pdfs anywhere near as well. It really is amazing software for reading pdf.

I extracted the APK file from the OReader app on my original Max. It came out as Alreader.

I then sideloaded that APK file onto my Note and installed it. It came up as OReader, but looked very different from the Alreader app which I had earlier installed from the Play Store.

I then uninstalled both of them because the Neoreader 2 and some other apps I have installed serve my purposes better.
