Are you a Dinosaur, Luddite, or TechoMaven?

So what are you?

I'm a dinosaur since I was happy just to use my slide rule to solve problems.

I would have to say Dinosaur, since I was around when color TV was the latest-greatest thing.

And we had 1 (One) TV-Channel to watch.

Part dino -- I have a slide rule collection and am always looking fornew ones.

Part Luddite -- I have no idea what half the people on this forum are saying when they start talking about converting books. I just love reading the results.

Part Technomaven -- I have four computers, a Kindle, am lusting after a Treo 800w, three PDA's on my desktop, and spend all my spare time and more here.

I'm half gibbon, half space-cowboy, half intelligent modulated graviton wave, and half-asleep. This explains why I can be being incoherent and disgraceful in two places at the one time. I like technology, especially the way it shatters when it hits the wall if it doesn't behave itself (yes, I'm looking at you threateningly, Mister Fujitsu P7120). I like my 10D, and I'm giddy as a giggling girly-girl at the new 5dMkII. I also like my Dad's old, standard Parker fountain pens and my Moleskine Cahiers; my old, still-used rangefinders, SLRs and TLRs and others that I still can't help myself from occasionally buying (I might get a "half-frame" next).

I like Pina Coladas, getting caught in the rain. I'm not into health foods, but I'm into Champagne. I like making love at midnight in the dunes of the Cape. If this is something you look for, come with me and escape.

Mostly gibbon, probably. I hope there's something "BOOM!" in the new Macbooks coming soon.

Cheers,
Marc (et al)

I used a slide rule in high school and college (log-log deci trig); learned assembler, FORTRAN, and COBOL while in high school; have used email since the 1970s; have converted and posted over 800 ebooks; have about 5 computers in this room (only 3 are on at the moment); converted the CDs and Lps to digital form and listen to my music from a SoundServer (machine name='PESTER'); still have my original Sony PRS-500; and my cell phone has no camera but does run Mobipocket. I guess that makes me a hippo.

(See the pictures in my profile for more information on hippo.)

Well, I'm a dinosaur because I still remember when we were the first on our block to have a real black and white TV. Whooooo. There were three channels where we lived.

Other than that .... it's pretty much techno maven all the way. I've been an early adopted since I built my first computer (which was strictly DOS .... no Windows back then).

I'm downsizing my gadgets, however .... I've merged most of my computers into one four-screened sweetie, and I have three laptops (all Toshiba), but I'm thinking of either selling or giving them away. A whole drawer full of cell phones (that I guess I'll also be selling or giving away .... who the hell needs three RAZRs??

In other words, I'm a technomaven packrat combination. Bad ... very bad.

I sent all of my extra cell phones to an organization that was providing them for servicemen and women to use. My wife sent hers to a group that provided them to battered women. Both causes we felt were better than the money we could have received by selling them on line.

You know, I did that with my old phones in California, I'll just have to find out what we have out here in the sticks in Texas. I'm sure there's got to be some sort of groups like that ... right??

TechnoMaven... but a cautious one (IOW, not quite a TechnoWhore). I can usually tell when a technology goes too far, and I try to avoid the bleeding edge for one that's been smoothed down and polished a bit.
