Voyage touchscreen broken

Has anyone had this experience? The Voyage I bought two and a half years ago has ceased to register the input from the touch screen on certain areas. I can bring up the menu bar at the top, but the 2nd and 3rd buttons from the left (back and light settings buttons) do not register a touch. In addition, the "Go to" button also fails to register a touch. The Home button is OK as well as the buttons to the right of the light-setting button--for the most part. At times, they also fail. Upon contacting Amazon, they will of course sell me a new one with the giant discount of 3,000 yen (a little over 30 dollars). I restarted several times as well as reset. All to no avail. I might go ahead but fear the same thing would happen. I have a keyboard Kindle that is jugging along perfectly, but the contrast is not as good as a modern device and the software is not as good.

I've had my Voyage since launch, and it still works perfectly.

My Voyage was purchased at launch also and is still working. Hopefully it will last for a long time. If you like the Voyage, I would say your chances of getting another one that dies is equal to the probability that a paperwhite or some other kindle would die. But that's just my assumption. Good luck! k4k

Mine also has worked from launch.

I recently had a refurbished kindle that wouldn't register. I did a soft reset about 8 times and a factory reset about 4 times. Powered on/powered off. Eventually, one of those things have fixed it because it's been problem free ever since. You won't lose anything trying these things, but I suggest doing it while you are watching TV. You will get less angst (ask me how I know this).

Try using a damp Qtip and clean all around the bezel. This actually fixed the touch screen on my Nook ST some years back. It still works.

If after all this has failed, consider opening the back and checking that everything is in tight. Again, if it isn't working, you aren't out anything. I've noticed that this was often the suggestion when other digital touch devices have problems (check for loose cords inside, etc.).

I'm guessing the Voyage uses a capacitive touch screen? Could that layer be the issue? Is it possible that a factory reset could fix it?

I don't know for certain, but I think the Voyage has a capacitive touch screen, whereas the Nook ST has an infrared touch screen. So cleaning around the bezel will help on the NST, but not on the Voyage.

The front of the Voyage is flush, so cleaning around the bezel is hard to define.

(Yes, the Voyage touch screen is capacitive.)

I have exactly this problem with my refurbished Voyage! I actually just registered and came in here to ask about it.

There are specific areas that don't register touch input, which means I can no longer turn on certain features. It had this problem for a long time (interestingly, initially the problem was the top left area, now it's more the upper center), then there was a software update that somehow magically fixed it (I think likely because of resetting), it worked perfectly for several months, and just over the last couple of weeks the problem has resurfaced. I am debating whether to just send it back for the gift card and get a new one.

I'll be watching this thread with interest, since as much as I LOVE my Voyage, this issue is making it very annoying.

Hi, unfortunately, I also joined this club. I had my voyage since end of 2014. Since last week the touch display does not register in most areas. Sometimes I can get it to register touches in the centre, but even so the kindle is unusable.
I tried around 10 resets and a factory reset with the above method, no avail.

I received a similar offer from Amazon customer service: 15 Euro (about $18) off a new one.
Interesting side note: the customer service even knew, that I had done my last factory reset in January. Amazons collects a lot of data on us...

Going back to my Sony PRS T1 for now, definitely a big step back. Missing the font options and the backlight, but it's still working perfectly after more than 6 years and still the lightest reader I know. I wish Sony was still in the market, none of the current offers convinces me 100% like the Sony did in 2011.
