Amazon Control Of My Kindle
I can't believe I am the only one that this has happened to, so what did you guys do to fix this issue? I just got my Oasis 2 after a month of travel time, and I turned on whispersync to see if it would copy my page numbers of my open books and the books themselves to the Oasis. No it didn't. But what it did do, was tell me I can not create a collection called Stephen King on my Oasis because there is already a collection with that name on the cloud, from my Voyage. So I chat with cs. Can't turn off the cloud, my only option is to name my SK collection to Stephen King 2 or whatever. Not what I want to do. Is there anyway I name my collection what I want? Nope sorry. Well of course there is. I just created a new Amazon account with a new email address, deregistered my Oasis from the account I purchased it on, and re registered it under the new account. Now I can name my collections anything I like. I really really don't like having Amazon in control of things that I purchase from them. Where will it end? 1984 is coming I guess. At the very least, there should be an option to turn off the use of the cloud. I have no interest in it, never use it. But I do buy books from Amazon occasionally , and I keep my OS current so I do need to turn on WiFi now and then. So how you you guys and gals, with more than one kindle eBook reader dealt with this issue? Thanks.

Very simple. Very elegant. I do that all the time whenever I decide to put a Collection in the Cloud on one of my Kindle devices. |

Regarding the other issue in your post--once you've registered your Kindle, you really don't need to connect to wifi again. I buy books from Amazon and download them to my PC to transfer via USB to my Voyage. And I install the firmware updates when I'm ready to by downloading them to my PC and copying them over to my Voyage. I don't use Amazon's cloud for anything. Since my Kindle is never connected to Amazon's servers I'm not able to sync my position between devices, which isn't a big deal for me--the only devices I really read on at all are my Kindle Voyage and my Kobo Aura One--and I couldn't sync between these two anyway.
Also I don't use collections and from what I've read here, if you do use collections it's a lot easier to do if you connect to Amazon's cloud... |

Me? I have no desire, need, wish, or whatever to turn of the cloud. It causes me zero problems. When you decide how Amazon controls your Kindle, let me know? I have two Kindles and they work fine. I put books on them, remove books from my devices and my "cloud" and thoroughly enjoy reading with it. Since I can search the cloud by author, I've never seen any need to form collections for the various authors. |

If you wanted two Stephen King Collections (and I must admit I have no idea why) why didn’t you call one Stephen King (V) and the other Stephen King (O).
I certainly think having two accounts is going to cause you far more problems. |

I want one collection on my voyage named Stephen King, and one collection on my Oasis named Stephen King. I was told by cs that it was impossible to do that with both Kindles registered to one account. So I made another account. I see no issues that might arise in the future for having done so, since I haven't shared any of my billing or shipping information on the new account.

You don't need another account. You Can have up to 6 devices inc kindle apps on 1 account ALL with the Same Collections & & e-books. By making Different Accounts You Need to ReBuy Each e-book for Each Account.

I am just so confused why you didn't just put your Stephen King collection on the Voyage and then on the Oasis. Then all your books in that collection would show in the cloud and you can download them to the device and they stay in the collection. You don't create a collection you already have, what is the point in that. Its already there. To use on any device you have. Why in the world would you open another account when you can already do what you want with one account? I am totally befuddled. I need more coffee. ![]() |

Ah, thanks. I needed that. Its way too cold down here in South Texas. Seriously, our building is not made for cold. Walls are like 5 inches thin. Drafts are coming in from every window and crack and I am sitting here with long sleeve shirt and flannel shirt and I am still shivering.

The issue you are having is why it's difficult for me to use Collections properly on the newer kindles. I have multiple family member's kindles on my account and what they want for Scifi, for instance, is different from what I want for Scifi. You can sort it out, somewhat, by just naming a new, similar folder.
For instance, you apparently want two Stephen King Collections. Just name them Stephen King 1 and Stephen King 2. Believe me, it's a lot more complicated when you have 3 people who read science fiction all using the same account! |
