Sending a copy of Calibre to a friend

I made a friend on my travels in Burma who reads 19th century British fiction. As you can imagine, not so easy to come by there. I'm burning a DVD for him, made up from books on Gutenberg (he has a computer but only a flaky internet connection)
I thought of adding a copy of Calibre mobile as otherwise he will probably only be able to read plain text on the computer, and his phone has a tiny screen.
Would this be acceptable, do you think? Kovid?
Also can anyone suggest other useful small low overhead reading software that will run on XP?
Thanks for your ideas

I doubt Kovid would object considering that Calibre is licensed under the GPL 3, meaning you have the right to share it.

Keep in mind that the recent versions of calibre will not run on XP, even the portable. You'll have to dig down to find the last that would. Kovid has them all on his site, though I don't remember the last XP-compatible version.

Read only media poses other problems. Calibre does expect full access.
SD cards and Pen drives have come down in price (just not as cheap as a DVD) . 4G cards should be under $7US (you don't need fast for a Library)
(I chose 4G since a DVD is 4.7max)

Thanks, all. Good idea to use a pen drive, too.
