Conversion to MOBI -- No Bolding
If I convert an ePub to MOBI using Calibre 3.15, then send the MOBI file to my Oasis 2, there is no option for bolding of the font (part of new enhanced typesetting).
If I convert an ePub using KindlePreviewer 3, then the bolding is available. You can see more on this here: http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,259636.0.html The only way to reliably turn an ePub (From Overdrive) to a MOBI file with bolding is to do the following: 1. Download ePub 2. In Calibre, convert to AZW3 3. In Calibre, convert from AZW3 to ePub 4. Using the Kindle Previewer, convert the ePub to MOBI 5. Use SendToKindle to send the MOBI to my Oasis 2 Does anyone have a simpler way to accomplish this? Thanks! |

Technically the new font boldness slider is not part of Enhanced Typesetting. It works for KF8 (azw3) and for KFX formats, but not the old MOBI7 format.
It looks like you are doing the conversion from EPUB to AZW3 to EPUB to fix a character encoding issue. As an alternative you could use the "Encode HTML in UTF-8" option of the Modify ePub plugin for calibre instead. The Kindle Previewer uses Amazon's kindlegen program to convert your EPUB to a Master MOBI file that contains both MOBI7 and KF8 formats. You kindle uses the KF8 part of the file, which enables the boldness slider. As an alternative you could use calibre to convert to MOBI with the "both" MOBI file type option selected to accomplish the same thing. (Having said that, I prefer using the Previewer even though it is more work because I trust it to produce correctly formatted files.) |

Just choosing "both" for the MOBI output / MOBI file type seems to have solved both problems.
The cover is no longer displayed, however. Is there a way to fix that?? |
