Looking For a book, Information Brokers / Traders / Informants

Hey, I'm looking for a book where Information brokers / Traders /Informats are very relevent, maybe as main characters or as a major part of the plot. :3

I'm quite intrested in somthing with a distopian theme, but am open to anything including non-fiction.

Rosemary Kirstein's Steerswoman series seems to be exactly what you're looking for:

If you ask, she must answer. A steerswoman’s knowledge is shared with any who request it; no steerswoman may refuse a question, and no steerswoman may answer with anything but the truth.

Edit Information broker / Trader / Informant is a fair description of what hackers do for a living in a lot of stories, maybe cyberpunk genre would be a good place to look.
