Feature request - Persistent search

Hi,

Not sure this is the best place for such requests...

I make use of virtual libraries and often want to do the same search in each. To do this I got to VL1, hit forward slash, enter some search terms and press enter. The search results for that VL are then shown. What I'd like to do is then switch to a different VL tab and have the search persist, and for the book view to show only the matching books from the subsequent VL. What actually happens is that the search is blanked when navigating the next VL and book view shows all books in the VL.

Is what I'm asking for do-able in 3.13? And if not, is it something that I could add to the dev backlog?

No it's not doable as you describe. You can use a saved search so after switch VLs you just need to click a button to re-activate the search.

@bob.f - have a look at the View Manager plugin, in combo with the Job Spy plugin's Apply View Manager Views based on Virtual Library blade.

No guarantees though Make sure you read the last few pages of the View Manager thread, I'm not sure recent changes are fully reflected in the first post.

Bob:

It is not intuitively obvious that the "assumed" or "implicit" logical relationship between Virtual Libraries and View Manager Views differs between the above-referenced Job Spy GUI Tool and View Manager itself.

  • Job Spy "assumes" either a 1:1 or many:1 relationship between or among VLs and Views.
  • View Manager "assumes" a 1:1 or 1:many.

Simply stated, if you have many VLs that should point to the same View, then Job Spy can help you because its functionality is triggered by the use of the Virtual Library pushbutton (or clicking the JS menu item).

If you have many Views that point to the same VL, then only VM itself can help you.

If you pick a tool but soon find yourself thinking that "this is backwards", then try the other tool.
