Read Only & SD Card
Long story short... Everything was fine and has been for yonks... I got a new SD Card and started adding books (via content server)... Something hiccupped and the SDCard got corrupted to the point it is bricked... I put my old SD Card in (I did format it first) & started adding books... About half-way through it all of a sudden went Read Only and would not download or let me access the card.
I reformatted it and cleared CC's data...it will now at least connect to the content server but I am afraid to download anything... Is there something I am doing wrong??? |

I can't see anything you did wrong.
"Going read-only" usually means that the file system has been corrupted. That shouldn't happen unless the device force-reboots in the middle of a transfer, the format didn't "take", or the SD card is failing. The last one is the most common. However, to have it happen to 2 SD cards makes me wonder if it isn't the SD cards but is instead the device itself. If you have a card reader or something that will allow you to insert the SD card into a desktop/laptop then do a disk check on the card. You could also format the card using the desktop. Also be sure to reboot the device before inserting the SD card, just in case, in order to help android avoid confusion. In CC, if you change SD cards then it is common to need to re-select the CC folder using CC's Settings / Formats and folders. This is required because Android security is card specific, and CC's access permission for one of them won't work on the other, nor will it work after reformatting. |

Thank you...I did try to fix the new card with my laptop and it is apparently corrupted beyond repair...it was literally a brand new card right out of the package...when I plug it into my laptop it shows 3 books and the Android system folder and nothing else...it will not let me delete the books or format the card...so it is apparently dead...
I did format the older card with my laptop before I put it back in the device...IDK... |

I wonder if your SD cards lie about the amount of space on them. A lot of very inexpensive cards do that, saying that (for example) they are 8GB but are really only 6GB. If you format a card like misrepresents the amount of space then the format will be "bad", referring to storage that isn't actually there. Writes to missing storage will do something strange, either writing somewhere else or not writing anything.
There are some guides that talk about how to tell if the SD cards are "fake" and how to work around it. A quick google search found this one and this one. |

One suggestion is to use the SD Card Association's format program rather using the Windows or Mac OS X builtin formatter.
See this link SD Memory Card Formatter for more information. |
