Why not more unbreakable screens?

In the beginning of ereaders, I guess it was a matter of lack of technology advancement, but now we have a pair of ereaders (as I know, Boox 13.3" and RemarKable 10") which have plastic based screens and are virtually unbreackable.

Too many people have stated their ereader screens have broken, even the little ones, and manufacturers have not extended this type of screen, why? Is it a matter of cost? Planned obsolescence? Inertia? Ought they change too much their factories?

I'm really not sure. E-Ink has created flexible displays they call Mobius, but as yet nobody's created a "mass market" eReader based around them. There are reasons... the Mobius displays are lower resolution then the glass-based displays, and E-Ink doesn't make Mobius units in the traditional eReader sizes.

Sony's Digital Paper unit runs on a 13.3" Mobius display, but it's hideously expensive and not really meant as an eReader. Pocketbook announced a Mobius based unit called CAD back in 2014 but it has never made it to market.

You say too many people. If screen breakage was a problem, then I am sure the manufacturer would find a solution.
I think I have read that 100 people have broken their screens.
So let's for arguments sake say each of those people represent 10 people since roughly only 1 in 10 will comment. Oh let's make it 100. That is approximately 10,000 broke screens.
That is not a drop in the bucket of ereaders. I can't remember if there are at least 7.5 million ereaders or 75 million.

I have yet to see a screen that broke due to a defect in the device. Every one I have read about was a user error at one point in time or other.

I hope this answers your question.

The problem is that Mobius does not come in standard sizes. The closest available is 10.3". Next up is 13.3". All the other sizes are too small.

That solution would be to have the Mobius screens made at the standard sizes. I'm sure a Kobo Aura One would sell very well if it has a Mobius screen.

We all are human, and error is intrinsically ours.

Aside, despite the small size of the majority of ereaders sold, they break because their fragility compared to LCD tablets.

Are they? I hear about more phones breaking than ereaders. There are many more phones too.

With all the other answers you have gotten, I would have to conclude it is not cost effective to change the screens.
