Book not showing up... What am I doing wrong?
So, I was wanting to get the Gutindex.all text file from Gutenberg on to my ka1 because I enjoy looking through the books Gutenberg has in order to find some totally random stuff to read.
I started by saving the file as a .txt and sending it to the Kobo via Calibre. Calibre showed the file as on device, so I ejected, and then couldn't find the file anywhere. I plugged the device back in and mounted it, and now Calibre no longer shows the book as on device. Weird... So, I thought that maybe the ka1 doesn't like the .txt file. I converted it to a .epub and sent it along. Exact same response. I tried uploading the .txt file to my email and downloading it using the Kobo browser. No dice there, either. Is it too big? I mean, I could split it into different books if that would help? Or is there something else that I'm missing? The book seems to open fine in calibre's viewer, so I don't think there's anything wrong with it? I tried googling and couldn't find a solution, so sorry if I missed a previous post about this! |

How big is the text file? The Kobo firmware does handle text files, but there is a maximum size it will handle. From memory, it is 2MB and anything bigger than this is ignored.
For the ePub version, I don't know of a size limit. I don't think I've tried anything past 100MB, but I've gotten fairly close. An epub being ignore is usually a problem with the contents of the file. Usually an error in the OPF or NCX files. There are also some characters in the file name that will mean the file gets ignored or causes other problems. And if the name of the file or directory it is in starts with a dot, it will be ignored. Did the importing screen get displayed when you ejected the device? If not, then the files weren't seen. If it was, then the epub probably has problems. Running an error check in either the calibre editor or Sigil will hopefully show what is wrong. |

Ok... So the text file was 3mb or so, I believe, so that was probably the problem there.
I will try debugging a bit to see what happened with the epub file. I don't remember whether the importing screen was there, so I will check. Thanks for the advice. I will look into those things. If all else fails, I can probably just go ahead and split the text file. ![]() |
