[Help] Does boox support background apps ?

hi,
I am planning to buy the carta 2, but i have a doubt if it supports proper background apps/multitasking.

I heavily use the Clipper app on android, where i can copy any text from the browser and it automatically gets stored in the clipper running iH the background. I later merge these clippings into concise notes.
Can i replicate this on any boox ereader ? if someone can try it and confirm, it would help me out a lot.

Thanks.

Bear in mind that Onyx sell devices with Android 4.0.4. Furthermore I doubt you would be able to use the Clipper with the best build-in apps as the pen operation might be handled by the build in note taking feature rather than a generic highlight&copy&paste

It occurs to me that, even if it did work, an app running constantly in the background would have a disastrous effect on battery life. One of the main benefits of eInk devices over LCD tablets is long battery life, and that's pretty much predicated on the idea that the device can go to sleep in between page turns.

@Harry: I am not really sure it is as you are depicting it.
If you run an app in the background, it will take its share of battery as it is actually running, not when it is idle: in the case of Clipper, it is most probably triggered by the System only when "copying" occurs - it is not constantly checking. Anyway, since I recently installed com.gsamlabs.bbm, or "GSam Battery Monitor", I can provide a confirmation later on.
EPD displays, in contrast to LCD displays, are battery efficient because they require no energy to keep any page displayed - their changes are physically permanent instead of "constantly requiring a supply of existence and persistence a la Malebranche". The device never really sleeps... The system idles paused applications and activates processing only based on events.

Thank you all, especially mdp.
I have ordered the tablet and am waiting for it eagerly

As for the battery, I dont mind. I know the tab will be a very minimal device, full of quirks. But I plan to continue using my Kindle for serious reading, and use this just for browsing and other smaller stuff.... definitely not as my primary android device.

Thanks again

As you saw, the Onyx devices have bugs and stuff to improve, but if you want it for reading it is a very good device. Furthermore, I like the open devices, and knowing the Onyx boox aren't OpenSource, they are more than a Kindle, so kick off your Kindle a get into the android

And for the battery just say we have a 3000mah battery. That's a big capacity and if you don't surf a lot with it it can last many time. I am using the N96ML+ as a pc monitor through a wifi connection and the battery last many many hours, not more than a day, but I only have to plug it when I go to sleep.

You might want to look into usbmobilemonitor to stream desktop via a usb cable and save on wifi. Works quite well IMO.

Now that I see this post again: well, I only forgot about the CPU locks and screen locks, yes (only!). Under lock, the device responds to events, when it does, with dramatically reduced frequency. Thing is, applications should release locks on pause (or similar). The device should not sleep while you expect responsiveness. Here the "reader" model does not work. And extreme lock ("Rendered! Now freeze"), to bargain a little battery, is not necessarily a good idea - try that policy with text editing. There should be an option to toggle that (extreme lock placement, as often as possible, vs. relaxed lock placement, when the screen is turned off).

Why don't you post about your experience in the Onyx Boox as monitor thread?

BTW: that's strange: Win only but not RDP.
