Book on UK site, How to buy

Hey Guys:

A question is there any way to buy a book on the Amazon UK site and gift it to a USA account without actually being in the UK?? There is a Raymond Feist book that I really want in eformat but it is not showing as available on the USA site. Which is quite annoying because all the other books are available in eformat.

You need a UK address loaded in your account. Then you can set that address as your kindle address and Amazon will ask you if you want to switch to the UK Site. You then buy the book and switch back to the U.S. The book stay on your account and comes with you.

It's not really allowed and i don't do it anymore (I did it years ago) but most people get away with it if they are quick and don't linger in the 'wrong' site

While it does work, it's bad advice.

I did this only once to buy two books at only 20% of the US price, did not linger in the UK store, but still got a very polite but definite e-mail with the request to prove that I either *was* in the UK at the time of purchase, and if not, to refrain doing this sort of thing again.

I did it years ago from UK to US. I was lucky but I know others haven't been.

Wouldn't want to do anything to occasion a warning email; I can only echo Katsunami and say this isn't a good recommendation.

Safer would be to go to Kobo, which manifestly doesn't care, and format shift.

Issybird beat me to it - you can buy from three countries in a day with Kobo, and they don't bat an eye. At least thus far.

This would indeed be the better advice. It's even possible to create multiple Kobo accounts... because you do maintain the ebook library for those far-away family members, don't you? ()

Just make sure you download and un-DRM the books in case Kobo ever does lock down an account a policy change.

I've noticed that if I switch my country, books I've bought that aren't available in my current location no longer appear in my library. This would be a pain in the neck to remember if for some unforeseen reason, I had to try to reconstruct my library. I'm not at risk (knock wood), but I'm just reinforcing your advice to download the books soonest.

It's the same URL for all their stores (except maybe the Japanese store?)...
kobobooks.com

If you aren't logged in Kobo will try to determine your location based on IP (I believe) and show you the local store for your country. If logged in they will show you the store based on the country settings in your account info.

I have never ever managed to buy from Kobo UK site. I would be very curious to know how you guys do it, as I have tried many things including a VPN and it never ever worked, either they told me I was not in the UK or they refused to use my German credit card as a payment.
In the end I gave up.

Before you start looking for an address have you checked if the book is on there and how much it is?

This is Raymond Feist in newest order (it was the UK store when I took the link)

No I do not see it. Of course iTunes has it in their Australian store and Amazon has it in their UK store. OH well I guess I have to wait and see if they will ever release it in the US. The worst part is every other book is available except for the very first one. Or should I say two since they split Magician into two books. UGH!!
