Ok I feel like I'm probably missing something glaringly obvious here, but I cannot find a way to accept downloaded metadata after reviewing it?
I have Calibre 3.6 on Windows 7, I am trying to use the Bulk Meta Data Download Tool, I select metadata only, then once the job has finished I choose to review the metadata. All that is great, but now it all falls apart. There is no "Accept" buttton? is there meant to be? At the moment I hit next which I am presuming is accept? At the finish of the books it says "updating metadata", but nothing changes? I have tried using the Accept All Remaining button too, but the dialogue box closes and a message says updating metadata but once again, nothing changes?? What does the Accept ALL Remaining button do? I mean why would you click it if you haven't even seen the rest of the books yet? S/S attached in case I'm missing any buttons? like back, or accept? |

Ok, so instead of reviewing the metadata I simply chose yes, and still nothing updated? So currently I can only download metadata individually, as the bulk method refuses to update any records.

@Trevor68 - I don't use it much, but my memory is that have to use the blue arrows in the middle to cherry-pick the values you want and click Next. Can't recall ever using the select all.

In your screenshot, there is nothing to change, since the downloaded metadata, which is on the left, is a subset of the existing metadata.

I'm thinking maybe this has become a feature request? I have 4,500 books with excess tags, so I was going to process 100 at a time to clean them up.
What I have found is that the left will hold 3 tags (or none uo to 3, which is my limit) while the right will hold the original 4-10 tags. I made a boo boo, the tags ARE being updated, but are being ADDED to the existing tags, not OVERWRITING them as I expected/intended. If i do this individually, I look at the tags to see if I can just remove some, if it's too bad then I delete all the tags, THEN download metadata and see what I get. I wanted to do this process in bulk, but seem unable to? I did try selecting 20 books first in bulk edit and removing all tags BEFORE doing the bulk metadata download, but if a book fails to download any tags it becomes very easy to forget what was there in the first place. The ideal solution to this would be to add the ability to remove the ORIGINAL tags on the right hand side of the bulk editor, but I seem unable to do that? All I can do is click the arrow and return the left side to the way it was? I hope some of that made sense. |

So in this screenshot, I cannot edit the original tags circled, and I wanted the book to update as only Science Fiction just like on the left, not ADD Science Fiction to the existing tags.
If this can't be done that's fine, I'll go back to doing them individually. |

If you only want to remove the old tags and replace with new ones.
1. Select the eBooks you want to have the tag "Science Fiction." Or any tag(s) you want to use. 2. Open "Edit Metadata" for those eBooks. 3. Go to the box "Add Tags." Type in Science Fiction and any other tags you want. 4. Go to the box "Remove Tags." Do not type in the box. Click on the "Remove all" checkbox at the end of the row. 5. Click on "Ok" or "Apply." It has been awhile since I have done this....so test with a small group before going whole-hog ![]() |
