Cover failure
While going through the system folder to see the "partials" that indicate a failure to show the cover on the device, I noticed that the id of the partial cover is listed under the same id of a proper cover.
Example: thumbnail_3f317263-4c33-439f-a82b-a6a56de50584_EBOK_portrait.jpg.partial thumbnail_3f317263-4c33-439f-a82b-a6a56de50584_EBOK_portrait.jpg Question 1: Is this because there is a listing of the actual cover that was uploaded vs. the cover that the Kindle uses on the device? Thumbnails from the system folder only show the covers in either black and white (which I assume means that it matches up with the cover Amazon uses) or in color, which I assume means although it doesn't match up with the cover in the store, it is still accepted and pushed through on the Kindle. The thumbnails for failed covers show a color cover next to a blank cover. Question 2: Anyone have ideas on how to determine why a covered failed with the information given in the file? |

What do you mean by: "Shows in color" ?
Your info box only lists grayscale model Kindles. Kindles that can display colors are in the other forum (Kindle "Fire" devices). Are you asking about the custom screensaver add-in, that can display book covers? Or are you asking about the KIndle's native "thumbnail" list mode? |

@at knc1
In the system folder the thumbnails are shown either in greyscale, color or blank. All books on the device are in greyscale regardless of how they are in the file. I am talking about the system file on my computer and being able to sort through the partial covers that indicate a failed to show on the device. I guess I am just curious as to why a cover might be shown in the file but not translate onto the device. |

Which device? You can find the device nickname used here by looking up the first six characters of its serial number in this table: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers The "Device Info" panel in the settings section that shows the serial number also shows the firmware version that is running. Since you failed to make any answer to my questions on if you are using our screen save add-in (which also produces cover renderings), I will presume you are asking about the Amazon's stock firmware. |

@knc1
I probably should have prefaced this whole conversation with - I sideload all my books that I purchase from Amazon onto my Kindle because I have to edit them first before they are considered "readable" according to my choice. I suppose this should have been mentioned. The books I am asking about do not reside "in the cloud" |

Without that information, it would be impossible to duplicate your problem and properly answer your question. Now you have introduced other variables without sufficient context. Edit them with what? Are you making any format changes, such as epub to mobi? What parts of your edits might be affecting the covers? |
