Fairweather by Welsh author Raya Jones (faculty profile), a Reader in Social Studies at the University of Cardiff, is her apparently standalone debut science fiction thriller novel set in a galactic post-apocalyptic world dominated by corporations which function as tribes, exploring its futuristic technology by featuring an information retrieval specialist tasked with looking into an old mystery associated with one such corporation, and of course uncovering the obligatory disturbing revelations about past secrets and such, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint.

Al has lived both lives. A mysterious and brilliant navigator of the cyber net, he is tasked with a job of taking over for Professor Freedom Cordova, an eccentric castoff of one of the powerful corporation families, while Cordova investigates an old mystery for the Consumer Standards Group.

Al takes over, but soon discovers that there is much more to Freedom than first meets the eye.
