Bookmark storage file location.

Hello,

I bought a Onyx Boox M96 more than a year ago. I have updated the software from time to time downloading it from eReader Store’s webpage.

Updates added many improvements to the ebook, but sometimes after the process I lost bookmarks I inserted before in documents (mainly pdfs, but also in epubs), and also the current page which I was reading before applying the update.

I would like to know if there is a way to make an external backup of bookmarks and current pages. Where are these data stored? Are those files accesible for the user, so we can copy them?

I tried to look for this in goggle and this forum with no luck...

Thank you in advance

Hello lems1995,

I still have Android 4.0.4, but I'm thinking about upgrading to 4.4. Probably when I upgrade to 4.4 I will lose all the bookmarks and current page information (which is quite annoying), and that's because I am asking if it is possible to backup it.

By the way, do you recommend Android 4.4? (I think it's a pre-release)

Thanks for your help.

I feel the similiar pain on this. The built-in notes doesn't synchronize automatically to any cloud file system. Although you can export it as PNG, , it is no where to find its internal note file.

Yes, rickyzhang, I also have that problem... I can't make a backup of notes inserted in pdfs. I can export a pdf with notes incorporated in the file, but it would be much better to be able to backup them directly, without generating a new pdf.

Maybe Booxtor can help us? Information about bookmarks, current pages and notes must be stored somewhere, it would be easy (maybe) to modify user's permissions to access those files...

I think we are looking for the same information, since I have a problem (described here) to backup my notes, I took on Neo Reader V2.0 (M96 1.8.1.).

I recently sent an Email to Booxtor, I hope, he has the time and knowledge to help us.

Good Evening,

Stephan

Sorry, I do not use OReader (I have my own consolidated preferences), but I wanted to check for you and - it I am not mistaken about your question - it took literally three minutes to find out...

There is a file /sdcard/OReader/favorAR.db .
Open it with any SQLite manger, you can see that there is a table 'BOOKMARKLIST', which at column 'POS' contains the position of bookmarks you place in documents as per column 'FNAME',
[deleted]

Now you should feel indebted and pay with karma (which will be against me in fact as I will have to atone for the tongue-in-cheek).

EDIT: Having double-checked as duly, "current pages" are probably not in the FAVORLIST table. Ok, bought, I'll check again, a bit better

There is also a file /data/data/com.neverland.oreader/databases/alreader.db . This is not as easy to reach - you have to be root to access /data/data/ .
Open it as the SQLite file it is: table 'RLIST' at column 'POS' contains the equivalent of the "last visited page".*

* Since EPub files do not really have pages - pages are a function of rendering parameters (font size, page size, margins, indents etc.) -, what you have is the position in the text, ranging from character 1 to character """last full-stop of last paragraph""".

Thumbs up! Question:
1. What is difference between O Reader and Neo Reader? I thought there is only one reader. Sorry, I'm new. So I ask this dumb question.

2. Do you know where built-in Note App store internal file? I believe it is stored as vector. Because the way it can erase stroke and letter.

One thing I really hate using this is it does **not** sync to any cloud service. It is not quite productive to write my notes. Almost everyone is scared that upgrade may remove all their personal stuffs.

Thank you for your answers. For me it seems, that I perhaps have a different problem, since I have a problem with Neo Reader v2.0. Because SantiGL wrote something about pdfs, I thought, he or she would use Neo Reader.

Sorry for the confusion,

Stephan

Thank you mdp, I have been checking this and I could see bookmarks inside the file. Unfortunately, I don't use OReader, for pdfs I use Neo Reader v2.0 and for epub I use Onyx Neo Reader. But this is the kind of files I was looking for. I think users don't have permissions to access those files, and therefore backup isn't possible. Maybe they will make them accessible in some upgrade...

You where right Stephan, I use Neo Reader v2.0 for pdfs, but I don't trust much taking notes and bookmarks, as I lost many of them in upgrades.

Thanks
