Can't connect to PC

Hello, a borrowed mi Kobo Glo HD to my doughter for a while and when she returned it I had "issues" charging and connecting it to my computer. I had to push the micro-USB connector up to make contact. For example, I left a pencil under de cable so it could make contact.
It worked for some months but now I can´t connect to the PC. I use the same trick to charge, but Computer says unknown device. So, I can't use Calibre to add books.
I took the sd card out to make a copy before reseting the device (I did only the books folder, my bad).
After reseting it, the connection problem continues. I guess the connector i broken so I will let it be.
So, to return to the previous state, I copied the books back to the SD but I guess I didn't do it properly as the only books I see are the ones I bought in the Kobo shop.
Shoud I make a "Documents" folder to copy the books? (The partition is empty). I downloaded the books from the shop, should they somewhere? I can't see them.
Maybe, should I format a new SD with an image from this forum?
Any ideas?

The books partition should have a couple of directories in it. ".kobo" and ".kobo-images". Depending on the OS you are using, they might not be visible without changing options to see them. In Windows Explorer, that is choosing the option to see system files and folders. Though, they probably won't be hidden if you are using the command line. The purchased books are in the directory ".kobo/kepub".

You can put sideloaded books practically anywhere in the books partition. You shouldn't use the above as they should be reserved for Kobo purposes only. But, the problem with adding books to the card is getting the device to import them. Usually that happens when you disconnect the device. People have created ways to trigger this action, but, I don't use them. I am pretty sure that NickelMenu can do it, and I'm sure there is another method. The issue might be that they need to be installed, and that usually happens when the device is ejected. There is probably another way to do it, but, off the top of my head, I don't know how.

A brute force way to import the books is to sign out of the Kobo account on the device. That will trigger the setup and at the end of that, any sideloaded books are imported. As a once-off to get going, it will work, but, it is not something you would want to repeat.

Brute force worked!

Just needed to make it work now. I will look for other solutions for the future.

Thanks.

Good to hear. And there is always a time for brute for methods

And, if you are occasionally adding one or two books, you can use the browser. It will happily download from the calibre server and a lot of other sites.

I have the same issue with my Glo HD.

I will try to solder a new connector in the future, but for now this is what I do:

- Connect the device to Wi-Fi.

- Start sharing from calibre.

- Visit the machine in the local network from the Kobo browser. Download the books there.

Thank you for the tip. I loaded the eReader for a long time but I will take into account if I need a new one.
