Problem with Calibre's folder structure and long names in Windows

Hello everyone!

I experience a problem with how Caliber names files.

Caliber names files with the same name as the books.

On Linux, I see no problem.

But Windows has a character limit for file names and that's a big inconvenience.

Recently I wanted to transfer my Caliber libraries to my Onedrive account and I could not because Caliber has many files with very long names.

When using the "Path Scan" application, I listed several files with large names. For example:

220 characters:

C:\MyBooks\Biblioteca Calibre\Ficcao e Novels\George R. R. Martin\As Cronicas de Gelo e Fogo - Livro 3 - A Tormenta de Espadas (645)\As Cronicas de Gelo e Fogo - Livro 3 - A Tormenta de Espadas - George R. R. Martin.epub

I think it would be best if the gauge stores the books using disk serial numbers. Something like that:

<folder in disk>\Calibre\<ID_autor>\<ID_book>

Where "ID" is a internal serial number, a simpe index.

Do I need to know if it is possible to shorten the file names in the Caliber directory structure?

Do you know any way to do this in batch mode?

calibre on windows respects windows file limits. Dont share your calibre library folder between OSes directly, they are not compatible for many reasons, file name lengths being only one of them. Instead use the content server.
