I've been meaning to do this for about a month now, so I carved out some time on a wintry Friday.

Instructions: Hotsyncing to External Memory (VFS/MS)

Important: You will need to fetch and install iSiloX to do this.

Before you can use iSiloX, you must edit the. ixl Web Channel Collection (WCC) document to adjust for your hotsync name. To do this you're going to open the WCC with your favorite text editor (e.g. notepad.exe). So right click on the file and choose 'Open With', then 'Choose Program'. Choose Notepad.

Within the text editor you’re going to perform a search & replace for all 'yourhotsyncname' (without the quotes) occurrences and replace this string with your own hotsync name. (for ex, replace yourhotsyncname with ben) Save and quit.

At this point, if you open the .ixl again with iSiloX (ie, not notepad!), it should say "<ben> (External memory card)” in the Destination column.

What if it doesn’t? Well, you can always change this manually by right-clicking, and choosing ‘Properties’. This will pop up the tabs for iSiloX configuration. Choose the “Destination” tab. Highlight ‘yourhotsyncname’ (there should only be one choice there) and then hit the “Hotsync” button on the bottom. Change to your name, then choose your RAM or MS. (This is another good general tip when playing with your .ixl)

At the top of the iSiloX window choose “Convert” or “Convert All”, depending on your personal preference.

When the file is done converting, you can browse to the directory where your Palm Desktop is located and find the iSilo install-directory called iSiloI (for ex, C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\ (yourhotsyncname)\iSiloI.

Viola. Your converted pdb should be sitting there waiting to be synced. Note that the files in this directory will automatically sync onto your PDA when you hit the hotsync button. Therefore, there's no need to try and install it yourself. Cool, eh?

Anther important things to check:

We need to make sure your conduit's set up and working correctly. Right-click the hotsync icon in your tasktray. Choose Custom. Can you see the conduit "iSilo Install"? Make sure it says "Install files to external media of handheld". If it doesn’t, highlight it and click on ‘Change’

Hotsync. You should see your file being downloaded... to your MS. Congrats. Pour yourself a beverage. You deserve it.
