Confused by model names (6")
Reading here it seems C67ML Carta2 or Kepler is the alternatives (except for aluminium body on the latter and older android, I failed to see the differences).
So I entered onyxboox.com to figure it out, and there I get even more confused, as I now have to select between: - Amundsen - Monte Cristo - Vasco da Gama (For 6" if I remember correctly) ... I assume one of these are the c67 and another the Kepler, but then what's the third ... Trying to read the specs (on my phone), I'm having trouble spotting the differences between the models ... |

I'm afraid that the website you mention seems to be still under construction. I guess it's best to look through the options available at the re-seller's page. However here you go - all the currently available modification (afaik) from the manufacturer / distributor (please pay attention to the fact that the models from the distributor don't have audio output support as opposed to the versions ordered directly from the producer)
Basic models (C67SM Carta Series) - C67SM Carta? / Amundsen - same as C67ML Carta but w/o lighting and touch screen - C67SML Carta? / na? - same as C67ML Carta but w/o touch screen Touch screen models (C67ML Carta Series) - C67ML Carta / Vasco da Gama - 1024x758 212dpi screen - C67ML Carta2 / na? - 1448x1072 300dpi Carta Plus screen (=Carta HD) - C67ML Carta+ / na? - 1024x758 212 dpi screen with Snow Field technology support (their own approach to the EInk Regal waveform technology). - C67ML Carta2+ / na? - 1448x1072 300dpi Carta Plus screen (=Carta HD) with Snow Field technology support Premium Readers (Kepler Series) - Kepler Pro / Monte Cristo For a "premium" model there seems to be a suprising lack of information about the specs available from the distributor. According to the announcement from some Chinese stores, there should be Kepler Light, Kepler and Kepler Pro models, however they all seem to sell just the "Kepler Pro". The Russian distributor has a long(ish) history of renaming models after famous people. They recently took over the (previously moribund) US distributorship (onyxboox.com). To confuse matters further, some of their newer 'famous people' models are in fact minor variants of the base models.
The official Onyx Boox website is www.onyx-international.com which, when you press on the UK flag for the English version, takes you to 120.76.193.63/index.php/en/. Last edited by Hrafn; 06-21-2017 at 12:56 PM. |

Living in Scandinavia ... I see some offerings on aliexpress, wonder if they're safe ...
A bit confusing, find the c67ml carta2. But it's stating that the battery is 3000 mAh in the title, then both 1700 and 3000 in the description ... |

ONYX BOOX Prometheus 2 - the world's first 9.7-inch screen reader E Ink Carta In addition to the E Ink Carta screen, the new version of the model implements the SNOW Field function and supports the FB3 file format. At the same time, the cost of the device remained the same as the first version of the model. Moscow, June 8, 2017. - The company MakTsentr, exclusive distributor of ONYX International products in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and the USA, presents a new version of the model ONYX BOOX Prometheus 2, which continues the "antique" series of devices for reading. The novelty of the first in the world was the 9.7-inch screen E Ink Carta. At the same time, it implements the function SNOW Field, which is available in all the latest ONYX BOOX bookkeepers, as well as support for the FB3 file format. Let's remind, the first version of model ONYX BOOX Prometheus, appeared on sale last fall, became the first device for reading of electronic books with the screen of 9,7 inches with function of the adjustable backlight. Model ONYX BOOX Prometheus 2 is equipped with a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display E Ink Carta with a resolution of 825 by 1200 pixels with a function of smoothly adjustable backlight MOON Light. A screen reader with a similar screen is the optimal solution for those who often deal with PDF and DjVu formats, graphic files and illustrations, scientific, technical and educational literature or for comfortable home reading. On the right side of the front panel there are additional controls - two paging buttons, as well as the "Menu" and "Back" buttons. In the book reader, as in all the latest ONYX BOOX models, the SNOW Field function is implemented. When this function is activated, the screen does not need to be completely redrawn, and the number of artifacts in case of partial redrawing is significantly reduced. ONYX BOOX Prometheus 2 supports all popular text and image file formats, and also allows you to read documents in a large number of languages. Additionally, the support for the FB3 file format is implemented in the bugcoder. The device is preinstalled English-Russian and Russian-English dictionaries with the ability to add dictionary databases format StarDict. The model has a processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz, 1 GB of operational and 16 GB of flash-memory with the ability to use memory cards up to 32 GB, and a 3000 mAh battery ensures a long battery life of the device. The bugrider is based on Android 4.0.4, equipped with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules that allow you to surf the Internet, install programs from the Google Play app store and connect additional accessories to the device. The body of the device is made of aluminum-magnesium alloy, which provides its protection when used. In addition, the recorder is equipped with a Hall sensor and comes with an "intelligent" cover, when you close the device that puts the device into sleep mode. ONYX BOOX Prometheus 2, presented in a black box, went on sale and is available at the recommended retail price of 23,990 rubles. I've seen some people here and there sharing there experience of buying from Chinese shops. You may want to look through the recent feedback about the seller first. Then it's best to ask the seller for the confirmation of the details of their offer: battery capacity, carta+ sticker on the packaging, 300dpi screen resolution, if smart cover is included, etc. Unfortunately there's always a certain chance of receiving a reader with a screen of not-the-best quality (it seems that lighting is usually the thing that can get negative feedback).

Another question on these Android based devices:
Can I read/sync Kindle stuff directly with Kindle app or something? Or still have to convert to ePub etc? And for syncing epub's, is there a reader app that will sync read status with iOS reading app(s)? |

Got the C67ML Carta2+ from an Aliexpress seller. The quality seems nice. The frontlight are a bit less smooth than my Kobo Aura HD. (With high level of frontlights, the lower left corner has a bit more than the rest.) Really no dealbraker for me. By the way, is there a way/a hack for tuning frontlight even lower than the lowest setting? (Somewhere between "off" and 1 would be nice.) |

According to some comments, Onyx did some tweaking to reduce the minimum after complaints from users, but that might have been hardware tweaking. I guess there should be a better hack, but I can think only of the OReader's built-in feature: if you use this reading app, you can adjust frontlight intensity (1) with a gesture - "scrolling" just at the right edge of the screen or (2) assigning the action to reduce the frontlight to one of 9 touch-zones in settings. There should be at least 3-5 steps below minimum.

Russian 9.7'' Prometheus 1 is M92 in Western Europe, at least that's what I figured. What is Prometheus 2 Carta? Is it N96 or the new series coming up September? |
