edit metadata
Hello,
when editing "Title" or "Authors(s)" in metadata - why do I always have to click the buttons with the blue arrow to change "Title sort" or "Author Sort"? Isn't it obvious that I want to change these fields too? |

Tip 1: after typing the name or title, press the tab key and then the space key and that should press the button. Tip 2: if you change the Title and/or Author in the Book List (F2 in respective cells) the Title Sort and/or Author Sort will be changed according to 'the rules'. BR |

@BetterRed:
Thx for your quick answer. In my experience it's a rare exception to change author or title without wanting to change the sorting too. So I would prefer that these changes would be done automatically. The Buttons could be used to undo changes of sorting in case they are unwanted. I think that would be more user-friendly. Maybe you and the other developers would like to think about it ![]() |

@JWalkerMR - I am not a calibre developer, I just try to help fellow calibre users.
FWIW - I don't use the single metadata edit dialogue at all, I prefer to do all my single book metadata editing in the book list. You can lodge requests for enhancement here ==>> https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre BR |

If you edit from the Library list, it assumes you want the button clicked. Also in Bulk mode MDE, you can just tick the set author sort box, without doing anything else. The quality check PI can help identify those that need bulk treatment. ![]() |

![]() If I enter an Author name in the book list that I know will get an incorrect Author-Sort value - e.g. Claudia Monica Garcia Lopez will default to Lopez, Claudia Monica Garcia, then when I finish editing that row, I right click the name in Book Details, select Manage <author name>, and correct the Author-Sort value there - e.g. to Garcia Lopez, Claudia Monica. I do it this way because I prefer editing data in lists to editing data on forms. BR |
