Book "Title" too long

I recently "purchased" a book from Amazon called The Complete Works of Wilkie Collins... etc, etc, etc.

When I try to add it to my library, I get an error message that the program could not open the folder... something... I'm guessing that the internal book name is too long for Windows to deal with, so it can't create the desired name. Since the name is set within the book and I can't edit it because of DRM, and I can't remove the DRM because I can't import it... Sounds like Catch 22 to me.

Any solutions? I was thinking maybe using Kindle for PC, but... Does the downloaded file still have DRM?

Thanks for your help.

Sounds interesting. I was unaware that there even WAS such a thing.
Thanks!

It's easier than that probably: The length restriction is on the entire path, so just move it to the top level of your hard drive. or /temp/ or something like that.

(That is: Windows is dumb about this, it let you (or some software) create it because the /entire/path/to/the/folder/name/excluding/the/title was short enough, but once the book title got added, it was too long, so now it won't open. So make /the/path/shorter/ until you're under the character limit, then process as usual. Calibre will never make paths that go over the limit, it's smarter than Windows.)

No problem here adding that title to calibre (on a tired old 32bit Windows Vista machine)--DRMed or otherwise.

@Krazykiwi is probably correct: the location of your file may be too deep inside a directory structure to begin with.

A Kindlebook's metadata is not encrypted, by the way. That may be neither here nor there, but I just wanted you to understand that it's not DRM that prevents you from editing a Kindlebook's internal title.

(My bold and edit.)

When I tried to add directly from the Kindle, it seems that Calibre first copied the file to my personal Windows temp space which is pretty deep in the tree. I copied the file to C:\Temp and renamed it to Works of Wilkie Collins and dragged and dropped it into Calibre and had no problems.

A weird thing... I was originally adding these books as I bought them, and had problems with six or seven of them. For the sake of experimenting, I just added all of the books on this Kindle to a new library and only had problems with three. Go figure.

Thanks to all who replied.
