Expansion Cards Question

Any precautions necessary for installation or removal of expansion memory cards from Kobo readers with expansion slots for the cards? I presume the reader should be off. Could not find anything on the Kobo site in the help area. Nothing spotted in the manuals either.

I take it you are referring to the external micro-SD card slot? They are supposed to be hot swappable and I have changed cards while the ereader was on. There is the issue that if you have a number of books on a new uSD card, you will be waiting while the books are processed. If the ereader has seen the card with books before, the database already has the card information so the wait time should be negligible.

There have been issues where a card is not seen on insertion unless the ereader is restarted. This issue seems to come and go with different firmware versions and different uSD cards and seemed to affect the Kobo Touch more than other models.

New models Kobo readers don't have exterior SD card slot or interior SD card that can be replaced. If this is important to you buy older Kobo reader now with SD card slot while they are available.

I have three Kobo readers with the external Micro SD card slot which is why I was asking. Also several Sony readers with either the SD and Memory Stick slots or Micro SD slot.
