Epubcheck Report Questions

Ive just done my first epubcheck in Sigil. Gotta a few questions about the report. It was particularly unfavorable to my images.

1. Width Value
Col: 163: ERROR(RSC-005): Error while parsing file 'value of attribute "width" is invalid; must be an integer'.

My width value said width="50%" So, whats wrong with that? Doesn't epub like percentages?

If you're working on an epub3 book you can't use image width/height percentages in HTML files. However, you can still use them in style sheets.

For example, if your image is defined as:

<img id="img1" class="half" alt="" src="../Images/image1.jpg"/>

You could scale it down with one of the following CSS rules:

#img1 {
    width: 50%;
}

img.half {
    width: 50%;
}

My opening post was unclear so I edited it. My code said

<img src="../Images/myimage.svg" class="floatrightclear" width="50%" alt="" title=""/>

but epub rejected it. Perhaps Epub objects to SVG?

You can use some SVG tags in epub2/epub3 books. Is your book an epub2 book or an epub3 book?

Thanks. This fixed it. Ill get to my next question later today. It relates to images.

No. Sigil can do both ePub 2 and ePub 3. You can set Sigil to default to one or the other for new ePubs by going into Preferences.

Look in the OPF file and see what version ePub it is. If you are not needing any ePub 3 specific features, go with ePub 2.

Ive had a look around and my Sigil is set to Epub 3. My thought was that the latest version would suit best since I used a lot of SVG files.

Epub 2 supports SVG just fine. ePub 2 is currently supported by more devices/apps, so you need to decide what market you are trying to target. More and more devices are starting to support ePub 3, and they can easily be made backwards compatible so those ePub 2 devices will read them. IIRC Sigil automagically creates the proper files for backwards compatibility??? So...there are fewer and fewer valid reasons to not publish in ePub 3... FWIW

OK, Ive got that fixed plus a few other minor html errors. Thanks for the help so far. The remaining things picked up by Epubchecker pertain to my SVG images.

2. SVG Images

The report faults nearly all of my images, and cranks out miles of SVG code. I don't know how to read SVG, let alone fix it. Anyway, here is a portion cut n' pasted from the report.

By default Inkscape adds custom metadata that epubcheck doesn't like. You'll need to re-save all SVG images with Inkscape using the Plain SVG option.
Once you're done with this, you'll also need to manually delete the RDF metadata section, which epubcheck also doesn't like:

I have worked through most cases removing the RDF metadata section as you have described. However, several of my images have different 'RDF' code, and Im not sure how to edit it in these cases. I have colored red the line that was bought to my attention by Epub checker:
