Downloading Metadata and Covers - choosing data
Hello,
How do I see and choose from the available images that Calibre has found for a particular book during a metadata scan? I have multiple sources selected so I would expect to have a choice of options (assuming the "first/default" option isn't the right one). Currently whenever I download data I often have to perform multiple manual searches via the web to get the right images or data since I'm not finding how to choose from the hits Calibre sees. Thanks! |

@santiagodraco - in single book metadata edit download, you should see a grid of available covers from sources you've configured in size order, select the one you want and press enter. In multi-book metadata download you don't get to choose. It could be that the sources you're using don't supply covers, or the metadata download plugin doesn't retrieve them.
You can also download covers only in single metadata edit. Many users prefer prefer to 'fix-up' the textual metadata and covers as discrete operations, and I recall seeing mention of using the Search The Internet plugin to find HQ covers. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 06-20-2017 at 05:43 PM. |

Be sure to Assign Priority numbers to those sources.
The settings button is at the bottom of the MDE screen. You can even set what fields are supplied (allowed) for each source. |

Thanks guys, I understand both methods you mentioned.
My question was about being able to choose during a multi-book metadata download process, not editing individually or assigning priorities. I want to be able to make an active choice (like what's done in the individual edit). I am guessing that's not possible at this point. So I guess this is a request to be able to cycle through some set of results for cover art and maybe other fields (description?) while verifying data. I think this would significantly reduce the extra steps required to download "accurate" metadata for a title. Thanks. |

@santiagodraco - select multiple books, select Edit single book, click Download, deal with the downloaded metadata and covers, click Next, click Download, deal with...
There is no way to cherry-pick individual metadata values from multiple sources e.g. series from Amazon, comments from GoodReads, author from B&N etc. This has been requested in the past and Kovid has stated he's not interested in implementing such a thing, but as he always says, 'Patches are welcome'. It may be possible to do it via a plugin. BR |

The select multiple and individual edit isn't a bad idea. Certainly it's a bandaid but better than nothing I guess.
Too bad there's no interest in making this work as part of the core product. I use tools like MediaMonkey for my audio library and they've supported this for years (actually let you choose from results for all the metadata). /shrug. |
