Linux and Calibre 3.0 not working

Why is it that there are a lot of people running some version Linux where Calibre 3.0 won't run? That does seem silly to run an OS where you can't run the software you want to run.

On Debian 9 Stretch XFCE calibre seems to work.

Don't know about gnome, kde, mate, cinnamon, etc.
