Bypassing registration with latest Kobos?

Hi

I am intending to by an Aura edition 2. Is it possible to bypass the registration with the current models? I have no intention to use Kobo features at all becauuse I am a KOreader person so that is what I will try.

I saw a threead to bypass it but thge thread is very old so I want to make sure that it is possible to bypass the registration.

thanks

Not sure about whether it's possible to bypass the setup, but you could always set it up with a throwaway email account. That would amount to much the same thing.

If you don't already have a throwaway email, they're easy enough to set up. You could then even delete it after your Kobo is up and running.

In the past, Kobo haven't checked the email address used beyond it having a valid format. You should be able to use anything.

The easy way, you can just copy this database onto your device, replacing the existing file. Make sure to completely shut down and restart afterwards.

No guarantee that this method won't cause problems with future firmware updates,

Edit: If you can find one, I would really suggest buying the first edition H20 instead of the Aura. There's a *big* difference in screen quality

Hi

Thanks for all the replies.

@rashkee

What is the screen quality difference you mention? The reason I want the Aura edition 2 is because I want a 6 inch one. Those 6.8 ones do not fit into pockets well.

With the lower resolution of the Aura, I can see the jagged / aliased edges around serif fonts with the naked eye.

I'm perhaps a bit more sensitive/irritated by that than most. If you've seen them in person on display, then by all means, don't let my negativity dissuade you. When it comes to 6" devices, I would be hard pressed to not go with Paperwhite 3.
