Smaller than 6" is tough to come by. All the 5" readers that I've heard of are discontinued. On top of that, none of the 5" readers I know of had a high dpi screen.
In the 6" space you might consider a Kobo Aura Edition 2. DPI is 212, and Overdrive support is there. |

I didn't think Overdrive support was in any Kobo except the One.

http://www.onyx-international.com.cn.../boox-e-series The Onyx Boox 4.3" reader/phone runs Android and has a dpi of 217. The Android version is old so it may not work with the current Overdrive. The other choices would be other Android devices. Why do you need overdrive? Will support for Adobe DRM be enough? An iPhone may be another choice.

OP, Overdrive formats are dependent on your country, which you haven't specified.

The only eInk Reader I can think of that's going to offer any form of OverDrive on device would be the Kobo Aura One, which is anything but small. Anything else is going to require you to use Adobe Digital Editions to download any DRM'd books. ADE can also be used to transfer to the reader via USB.
The only other devices that allowed you to do anything on device with OD were a few old Sony models, but AFAIK that no longer works on most/all models. As far as devices that can handle OD library books from a Canadian library any device, such as one from Kobo, that supports Adobe DRM will work. As others have said, smaller than a 6" screen gets tricky as there is nothing that I can think of currently on the market. I suppose you could try and find a deal on a used Kobo Mini (5"). The Mini is 133 X 102 x 10mm, so a bit smaller than the current Aura Edition 2 at 159 x 113 x 8.5 mm however it does not have a frontlight if that's important (no 5" device has had a light). A Mini's screen is 200ppi Viziplex, the Aura 2's is 212ppi Carta (newer, higher contrast). If you want higher ppi than that you'd need to find a Glo HD (out of production) or go with another brand of Reader such as Onyx Boox, Boyue, etc, but they'll all also be bigger than 5". |

In the US and I would expect Canada as well Overdrive is supported but not required for eBooks in most libraries. ADE DRM is needed which can be via the installed reading app. Overdrive is needed for audio books. See EBook Lending Libraries in our wiki.

Instead of OD, the OP should check other reader apps. Aldiko supports DRM & can be set to access a library, login, get the book(s) & return when desired all within Aldiko; may be flakey with hi ppi ereader illustrations but not the text (had this problem with tablets).
Bokari also has a DRM/library setting to do as Aldiko but more convoluted; & does/did not recognize *.txt files. |

Didn't the Sony 350 have a nice screen resolution for its size? I remember the screen being much sharper than my 650, which I loved regardless. I never used my 350 for library books, so I don't remember if it had it (or if it would still work).
