repeat spammy invites to kindle unlimited

i keep getting notifications on my Fire tablet saying please try a free month of KU.
problem is, I did do a trial, then cancelled, a couple of years ago, so my reading of their rules is that I have had my turn already.

yet I keep getting not only the notifications but also banners on the web page apparently saying go on, have another

my question is ( & I tried asking amaozn but they don't seem to undertand the question) is: if you notify me personally of a 30 day trial invite, will you then honour that i.e. is this a genuine offer , or will they bill me on day 1 of saying yes, because I've been here before.

I also re-read the T&C but that failed to clarify .

I am tempted to take the offer if only to stop them spamming me about it - there's no other way to stop the banners and the notifications - but there's nothing on KU that i ma actually desperate to read and I see not easy way to browse through all the dross & the fake five star reviews & the fake 9 page books to find stuff that is actually good

PS when I go to web site -> my account -> My KU is simply says "not currently a member - click here to join "( which I am wary of as it could be a one-click sign up ). it does not say "your membership has expired" or "has been cancelled."

I recall having KU for a month when windows 10 launched so that i could skim read all the "for dummies" etc. books
it is possible but unlikely that I was on a different amazon account then.
I have emailed A. again to ask - am I eligible please either confirm or stop the invites, and please put it in writing as I will dispute any immediate charge once you say its definitely free for 30 days.. we'll see how they respond.

Amazon CS is scripted and fairly stupid, just like CS for almost all companies. I suspect Amazon merely sends those ads out randomly to anyone for which they have an email address. It is likely not a sophisticated send out. If they have an email address, they send it out periodically. I've been a Prime member for years, but I still get spam asking me to become one.

I often get snail mail and email sign up deals from companies with which I already have a contract or account. T-Mobile and Charter Spectrum are bad about that. It is annoying that they don't filter out those who already have accounts and cannot receive the deal, but they don't.

This should help:
https://www.ghostery.com/products/

Plus clear all the accumulated cookies in your browser when you first start using that product.

The world will suddenly forget that you exist.

i sent a fresh, detailed e mail to amazon who confirmed "yes you've had your trial and you only get one", as I thought.

They said they'd look into improving the "personalised" notifications but I'm not holding my breath

I already use ghostery on PC but that is not going to stop them sending me a free trial KU invite as a notification on my Amazon fire tablet - regularly. I suspect that amazon android notifications are all or nothing - you can't suppress only the annoying ones

PS, if I were to rejoin KU as a paid member - any tips for finding good stuff ?

what I want to avoid is those books where are <10 pages and exist only to enrich the spammers ( & not sure if you see the page count when browsing on tablet or reader )

, and avoid the ones that have used paid for / fake reviews to get their chart positions.

I find the whole interface of only being able to browse by crude pre-set genres most frustrating. I end up flicking through endless screens hoping that some random title or cover will catch my interest, as 99% of the books are by authors I have not heard of. Surely there is a better way ?

I have the same issue when trying to browse the new prime reading or the older monthly kindle lending library thing - some months I waste the one-per month loan slot as nothing hooks me.

The worst snail mail offer my grandmother ever got was from a funeral home to help plan her final expenses. Ok, so those are not uncommon. It came almost exactly one month after she died from the funeral home that had done her final things.
Turns out a clerk put her name on the mailing list instead of on the do not send anything list.
They fixed that immediately.

The ten page books are generally gone since Amazon changed the pay scale.
Now how to find books, what do you like to read?

Just out of curiosity, where are you seeing this ad on the fire?
I don't recall ever getting notifications on my fire.
Now at the top on the Amazon Web page, it wants me to try Prime. I just ignore that.

Amazon Fire devices are the Android OS.
It is the grayscale devices that run an Amazon homebrewed Linux distribution.
Try the ghostery for Android, it should work.

Since you already use it, you know how to tell if it is working.

Ghostery is just a browser extension. It won't stop anything as far as OS notifications or email spamming. The only thing it will do is stop some ads. Assuming it gets set up correctly. I use it on my FireSux browser. It does work well with a browser, but it won't even dent the notifications and email ads in general since so many of them come via some way than through a browser.

Top left of home screen is device name then a digit for the number of notifications. It is always one or more because having a password to control one click accidents in parental controlling as one.
It goes up if there are updates just done or pending or mail unread... a swipe down from top shows the notification details as single lines below the settings summary

anyway the plot thickens. Amazon just mailed again to actually your KU Trial was so Long ago you are now eligible for another one after all, just click here, and if you are charged, just write back for a refund.

I will sleep on that, decide tomorrow.
Right now I am binge watching the prime add on channel of "the great courses" on two weeks free. I think they have hooked me. I have begun four lecture series already and looking ahead at unmatched episodes i will need at least one paid for month...
The other add on channels looked pretty crap, but this is great value. It's like a KU for college lecture series.

I've checked your records and see you've activated the free trial of Kindle unlimited long time ago and you're eligible for another 30-days free trial Kindle unlimited.

In this case, we suggest you to sign up for the free trail using the following link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/kindleunlimited

However, if you get charged for activate the free trial, please reply back so that we'll issue refund to use the subscription as free for 30 days.

Should you require any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
"

but I may pass - now that I can anyway get prime reading fro free, I'd struggle to find stuff to use it for. I can borrow better fiction from the public lending library if I plan ahead and place holds on the most popular stuff, and its not easy to sort only KU for specific non fiction subjects. e.g. my failed attempt to search the UK site search for KU books on "bitcoin" , which i mentioned in another thread

Wow - they have never told me that.

this is in UK ?
how were you notified of this ?

we have, lets count, excluding the ones I have since sold: 3 x tablets, 1 x kindle. and i've bought then sold a new voyage.... ah, but two tablest were via ebay and another was an amazon certified refurb - maybe refurbs dont get that offer.

PS I decided to accept their revised " you can have another free trial after all" offer, & it seems to have gone through OK - I can see that the 1st payment wil be 1st July,

I can also now finally browse / search KU properly. Using my previous test case of find KU books books about bitcoin - on the fire tablet , in books, I searched for bitcoin then I can filter for KU - previosly I just got the sign up screen. Not sure if that same search + filter can be done on the web page though.

if I stay with KU it will not be as a source of more fiction to read. finding the occasional pearls in 1M items is too hard. I will use it to binge read on specific non-fiction topics of interest. I accept that the best text books for any study will not be found in the KU collections but maybe quantity will substitute for quality. It's not like I have exams to pass, just curious about... itches to scratch.

Oh Katie1 is in the US, so the offer she got may not apply to the UK.

Now on KU and non-fiction, I forgot what I was looking for but I had to go through at least 10 books before I found a useful one on whatever topic I was looking for.

You may have better luck now that they changed the pay scale.
