series crossovers.
Is there a way to add a 2nd series to a book so that I can read books in the correct order.
Michael Connelly has a series of Harry Bosch books and Mickey Haller books. In the books that both characters appear but one is clearly the main character I'd like to give that a full number in that series and give it a half number in the supporting characters series. I hope this makes sense to you. |

The way most people handle this is to add a custom column of type 'Series' to their Calibre library. That way you can use the built-in Series column for the main series and your new custom one for the other series.

My choice for this at the moment is to add a second copy of the book to my Calibre library, labelled with the 2nd series. Not perfect if you want to track that it's actually part of 2 series, but it works when I want to read all books in a series together.

I'll repeat the standard suggestion that I've used over the years:
The easiest way to handle the issue is to simply stare at the books for a few moments, put your head on your desk, and sob silently for a few minutes. Then get back to work. |

One idea I just had (and spent all of 30 seconds thinking about, so take it for what it's worth) is to create a Series-like "Universe" custom column. For books taking place in the same universe, such as the Harry Bosch / Mickey Haller universe, put them in order in the Universe column.
When reading books that have something in the Universe column, read them in Universe order rather than Series order. |
