Second User Account
Hi there.
I am fairly new to Calibre and wondered how I can set up a second user account on my PC. Both my husband and myself have Kindle Paperwhites but have different tastes in books. I have loaded Calibre and the contents of my Kindle to the PC, but cannot find a way to open an account for my husband to download his Kindle contents onto. |

Calibre creates the 'default' Library in the (logon) Users folder., so those should be independent also. The only sticky point (I havee not tested this theory) would be running a Content server. Only 1 can use the same port. Care would be needed to assign a different port to each |

It is also worth pointing out that if you want to maintain a shared Calibre library, then the Reading List plugin can be useful as it allows you to set up separate queues of books for each Kindle.

Moderator Notice I moved these posts to a new thread, because the advice given to Sandra4855 is somewhat contrary to that given in the original 2012 thread. To clarify the prior responses - the default library will be created in the user's Documents directory, and the configuration in the user's %APPDATA% directory. If users wanted to share the same configuration data they could do so via the use of the CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY environment variable. @Sandra4855 - If you're not inclined to create multiple Windows User accounts because of the administration burden, another way to do this might be to use Virtual Libraries . That could provide a user interface something like this: That would also address the content server issue raised the theducks, the content server 'knows' about virtual libraries. My only caveat is that I don't know how a Virtual Library solution would mesh with your Kindle Paperwhite devices and the Amazon walled garden. Others may care to comment on that. Many thanks to all who replied to my query. I think the best way for me to go would be to set up a new Calibre account on my laptop and delete my library of the main PC. That way my other half can use the PC Calibre for his books with no problems. Again, thank you for all the helpful advice received. I am grateful indeed to all.
