The frustration of discovering that almost all my usual writing tools have either disappeared from the app store, or are subject to the "this wont work on future OS updates" notice, is driving me to absolute sobs.
I always need to have a writing tool, even if I don't write much. I detest Pages as it currently is, I find that the Writepad I paid for years ago has been updated and I have to pay again (but am not really that interested in handwriting anymore), and Writeroom which I loved, is no longer available and even if it was, would probably not work. So.. what to do. I've decided since I have to start over, I'd have to pay for the best I can get which has the features I want. A) I want to be able to use a dark theme B) I want to make formatting bars and other on screen stuff disappear C) I do NOT want to have to sign up to yet another site. D) Must have Dropbox and/or iCloud integration E) Must allow font type and size changes. I think thats about it. Anyone got any ideas? I'll check them all ![]() |

Some folks swear by Ulysses - which is fine if you want to write only in Markdown - and it's a bit more expensive. |

Thanks for that, downeaster59. I took a look at them on the app store, Byword is nice, and Ulysses looks great, but over here its $39. I dont write anything often enough to justify that, alas. I may grab Byword, but hope for other suggestions as well.

There are lots of writing apps for iPad out there. You should get some other suggestions. The more options, the better.

Indeed. I've just been through my "Purchased" tab in the app store and of all the notes/text apps I have ever bought or downloaded, there really is only two left. One is Outline which is quite nice, and the other is Notability, also quite nice, but neither do exactly what I want. I guess I have been looking for a Writeroom replacement and there just isnt one. I have no idea why Hog Bay Software arent continuing to update it, they are still supporting the Mac version.
