Yes, I think this new technology could be a good stimulus for Sony to develop a new 13.3" e-reader. Together with a more powerful processor, an increased RAM, and with a well done and very stable firmware as the present one, it could be the next step toward the "perfect e-reader". With the current price of $ 799, I would buy it.

Yes please. New DPT-S2 with:
- i.MX 7 multicore processor - 13.3" 2200x1650 plastic substrate display - Android 4.4 or higher - Bluetooth 5 - 2 GB RAM or more Along with touch and stylus support which already has. And lower price. |

While Sony's reader is still on sale, there are rumours, that it did not sell well.
Big companies do away with those lines, that do not give big profits. They are unfortunately more into mere big profits, then into the customers' satisfaction and the moderate profits. However, the Sony is the Japanese company, and the Japanese have a somewhat different mentality, so there is a slightly greater hope for the new model from Sony, than from some company with the Western/European headquarters. But there are greater chances, that there will be no successor from Sony to 13.3 and the buyers will have to choose between the good Onyx with raw software and, apparently, from low to moderate quality build, and some tablet. |

I have no information beyond the link I posted above, and I don't know much about Sony marketing strategy, so I can't say anything about a future new release only hope for one.
I hope for a DPT-S2, the other alternatives (Onyx and Netronix) just don't function as well as the Sony, I'm not saying they are bad, but they are trying to be more than they should be, and in the way they lost it. The Max is heavy (over equipped?), no touch screen in a screen size that needs one, software is good as a reader but not as a note taking and annotation. The Netronix, yet to be reviewed, but, from the demos I see, handwriting lag, and no special software. I had the Max on the shopping cart for days, waiting to press order, when I decided to get the Sony instead and started to use it, I know now I made the right decision. |

if sony does produce a DPT-S2, a killer feature to add would be to make it a wifi "printer".
that way, when on the same network as a device that has a document you want to transfer to the DPT, then all you have to do is "print" to the DPT-S2. a pdf is then delivered to the DPT-S2 over wifi. |

Now the question is whether to buy one now before Sony cancels it or wait for a new model or possible clearance sales. Both BH Photovideo and Amazon have them in stock at $600 as of today 7/19/16. |

I would go for the Sony. neither Onyx nor Goodreader come close, Onyx is heavy with no touch screen, Goodreader software doesn't look good (check videos, see the response time when writing notes on PDF)
$600 is better deal than both can provide, and you get better hardware and software quality, if you need professional PDF reader and note taking. I still have high hopes that Sony release some update in the future. no information, just hopes ![]() |

the only disappointment i have with the sony is that it doesn't support epub. and at the current price of $600.00 U.S., it's a steal compared to onyx and goodereader. i got mine at $1000 initially and got a refund of $200 because the price dropped within a few weeks of my ordering it.
