[Kindle] On device - how to restore columns?
Hello - I have a Kindle Oasis and am using Calibre 2.83.
I've attached my Kindle to Calibre on my laptop and while playing around on the device view, accidentally deleted all my columns (I was too quick and they kept disappearing!!!). I have 400+ books on the Kindle but now cannot look at a single one - not even in the book view panel on the right. I managed to upload one book and double-clicked on it in the book panel and received this message: calibre, version 2.83.0 ERROR: No detailed info available: No detailed information is available for books on the device. How can I fix this please? I'm going nuts. |

This doesn't sound like a Kindle issue; I'd suggest asking in the Calibre forum. Would you like me to move this thread there?

You know, if I had half a brain I'd be dangerous!!!
Yes please ... of course it's a Calibre problem (well, mine really - I just stuffed up!). Thanks you for responding so quickly. |

Have just tested another Kindle and in the "Device" view, there are still no columns. On this second Kindle, there are 461 books but nothing showing up on the main screen.
I guess the short question is, how can I restore columns in the Device view please? I've tried going through Preferences, Change Look & Feel, I've tried through Device "Configure this Device". Nada. H-e-e-e-e-l-p! |

Try right-clicking on the column header area in Calibre main window. This should give you the option to control which columns are displayed.

Hi - tried that. I just get a drop-down menu with "View, Save to disk, Remove books" etc. on it.
There is nowhere now in that top bar immediately above the book list for me to right (or even left!) click to bring up a different menu. In the Library menu when the device is connected, it shows up and the books that are in the Main memory of the device have ticks under the "On Device" column. I think I may well have to uninstall and re-install and see if that brings it up fresh and restores the columns in "Device". I do have Calibre on another computer and everything is hunky dory there, so I think the above option is the only one left. Thanks anyway ... |

I doubt that an uninstall / reinstall would solve an issue like that. That procedure does NOT delete user configuration details.

We are NOT talking about clicking on the Windows Title frame.
But there is another way (for the Main Window) Preferences: Behavior: Add ticks, shuffle order. Ctrl-P is the keystroke for 'Preferences' |

No, I haven't been clicking on the Windows Title frame.
Accessing "Preferences" in either the Main or the Device window doesn't work either. Do you know where the Configuration details live in the directory hierarchy? I could then delete that and have a "fresh canvas". I'll have a look in the "User" sub-directory first ... |

You will need to reinstall plugins after the rename / recreate of a new configuration directory,

Hello - sorry I didn't get back to you before now. Have just had to take my dog to emergency hospital. Left her there on a drip. Most upsetting.
Now you've found out my ignorance. I can't find %AppData%\Calibre under Users. I can find AppData\Local\calibre-cache and AppData\Roaming\calibre but the %AppData%\Calibre is a bit above my skill level. CANCEL ALL THAT ... I did what you suggested (once I worked it all out) and voila ... I have everything back! Many thanks indeed ... Last edited by AussieTupp; 04-16-2017 at 02:38 AM. Reason: Added information |
