Access 3rd person library
I would like to share my Calibre library with my father in another state. He also runs Calibre and uses it to sideload books to his device.
We both manage our books using Calibre in the usual way, but also, I have the content server working properly and viewable from the web. Currently, he opens his browser, downloads the book from me, places it in a temp folder, then adds the book to his library. Is there a way he can use his Calibre to directly access my library to get the book without the intermediate steps of using his browser and saving to a temp folder? He is getting a bit older, and simpler is better. Ideally, it would be nice for him to have a couple of buttons to show him his library, OR mine not both, then click an "add to my library" button. Thanks. Mark. |

Calibre Companion on his Android or IOS reader
You will need to open a router port as well as use a DYNDNS type service (if you Modem/router does not have a static IP) Since you already have done some of this for the Content server, you should be good to go. You probably do NOT want to use the Device connection (sync) feature (also needs another port forward) for him. |

Thank you theducks:
I already have those things, and he can see my library of books via his browser. I was asking how to setup his Calibre to import some of my books into his library without the browser step. Thanks, Mark. |

I don't believe what you want is easily possible (if at all). The following work around might meet your goal.
In Preferences - Adding Books - Automatic Adding tab specify a folder. Now when he downloads the books from the content server simply save the books to this folder. When next he starts up calibre the books in this folder should be added to the his calibre library. |

@bernie - on Windows doing it your way will start calibre if its not running, and it will always bring it to the top, thus hiding the browser window - some users may find this disconcerting. And if you wanted to download several books I think you'd be Alt+Tabbing between browser and calibre with waits whilst each book is downloading.
Whereas autoadd will happen silently, immediately if calibre is running, otherwise when the user starts calibre. And there will be no waits while books are downloading. And you could use a download manager to save into a autoadd folder, some people prefer not to download using their browser, especially on slow links or big files. BR |

I understood your post and didn't need any clarification. This isn't some sort of competition. My post had nothing to do with your post. Two different ways of dealing with the issue. My post (as all posts in a thread unless specifically stated) was directed to the original poster's problem. Try and gain some perspective.
