Publishers delaying ebooks to Libraries

Has anyone noticed that some publishers are delaying release of their ebooks to Overdrive Libraries again. I've got holds on three or four ebooks that are available in DTB form from my Library or I could purchase the DTB or ebook version, but the ebook version at the Library is being delayed. Have you seen an explanation for this? What are these publishers thinking?

That it isn't worth the hassle to upload to Overdrive.

I'm inclined to think that in some cases, it's the library and not the publisher. Personal case in point: neither of the two major city libraries which I patronize as yet has the new Nixon biography that came out last week, but my pretty lousy state library got it on release.

If your libraries are nearing the end of their fiscal years, they may be running short of funds.

This is a good point. If your library allows it*, you could try searching for the book to recommend it. That way, you could see if it's available from Overdrive, just not at your library yet.

*I have access to four Overdrive libraries, and one has turned off the ability to recommend books. Or maybe they haven't turned it on - not sure how it works on their end.

I wonder if something like that happened with my book (in another thread). I was trying to borrow "By Reason of Insanity" by Shane Stevens and the book went bye-bye for some reason. Who knows if and when it will be back. I gather open library has it but who knows what quality the copy there is overall.

If it was originally available for checkout, and now it's not, it probably expired because some publishers limit the duration it can be checked out, or the number of times it can be checked out, or both.
