Raven of Destiny by British author Peter Tremayne (ISFDB, Wikipedia), perhaps best known as the author of the popular Sister Fidelma historical mystery series, is his standalone historical fantasy novel set in ancient Ireland, based on the Ulster Cycle of Irish Celtic mythology, this tale starring a young warrior under King Conchobar Mac Nessa (of Deirdre of the Sorrows fame) who finds himself exiled for breaking an oath and thereby embarking upon an adventurous quest to regain his honour, as you do, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint.
This was originally published in 1984 by Methuen. Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and pretty much everywhere else worldwide that Amazon sells, since this is being done via their KDP Select exclusive or else program) Description Bran Mac Morgor is the shining star of Conchobar Mac Nessa, King of Ulaidh and his Champion. On the way to battle for his king, he and his charioteer, Finn Bann, receive a warning: Turn back. Bran laughs; he is Bran Mac Morgor, Conchobar’s Champion, and fears nothing. Disregarding the old woman’s warning of his jealous heart clouding his soul, he pushes on to battle and locks with Maine Moepirt, a chieftain of Connacht. He has broken an oath – a sacred code of the honour of battle. Cutting down Maine Moepirt might become his biggest regret… Branded by the mark of a raven’s claw and pursued by the anger of the gods, his exile becomes a quest; for love and for an answer to his cruel fate. Aided only by his faithful charioteer, Fionn Bann, the proud and bitter Bran defies the treachery of allies and the savagery of battle to reclaim his honour as a Celtic warrior. But the curse of his destiny is inescapable … and soon, Bran will realise that in his final triumph there lies a terrible evil … Raven of Destiny combines the imaginative intensity of myth and fantasy in an exciting and gripping saga. |
